Bike for 5/6 yr old

Dd is 5 and 1/2... but I would say fairly physically high ability... we want to get her a bike for Christmas... does anyone have one they'd really recommend (or not!) tia

My DD has a Ridgeback. Highly recommend it!

Islabike or frog bike - if you can stretch to it - would highly recommend both

Islabike, expensive but brilliant! Our 7 year old is getting his new islabike this Christmas.

Islabike.

We cycle quite a lot and have 3 children. Our eldest's first bike was a Ridgeback. It's just about to be handed down to child number 3. We also bought another Ridgeback second hand on eBay which did for two children. They are good robust bikes that take a lot of wear & tear. But they are comparatively heavy. Our eldest currently has an Islabike which she got 3rd hand from her cousins. It's fantastic. She'll be getting another bike for her next birthday and I think it will almost certainly be a new Islabike which will get handed down to her siblings. They are expensive but very good, and we see it as an investment as all the children will use it. I am hearing a lot of great stuff about Frog bikes too but no personal experience.

Islabike. My 3yr old went from balance bike to pedal bike in a day without stabilisers. So light weight. And keep their value. We broke wven on my son's 1st islabike a few years ago. He's now on his 3rd

Frog or Isla.

Wiggins (as in Bradley) bikes also light, good and cheaper than the islabike (not as light though).

Money no object - Isla
Good light bike but still fairly pricey - Frog
Solid bike, robust, heavy, cheap - Ridgeback

We have a lovely frog bike, my skinny nearly 6 year old can move it around no problem as its lighter than most bikes.

If you can afford it, Islabike. Frog bikes are a little cheaper but also pretty good. There are lots of good second hand options for these brands out there as people who spend that much money on a bike look after it!
Don't buy a heavy clunky cheap bike from the high street.

I would say though that a Ridgeback is only comparatively heavy to an Islabike - it is still lighter than an Apollo for e.g

My son has one, finds it easy and it looks great.

Think my post may look critical to Ridgeback which it wasn't meant to - I think they are the best bike at that price range and would recommend them if you are not in the Islabike/Frog league.

DS (7) had a Hoy for his birthday. (Evans cycles so could use Tesco vouchers) and DD(9) is getting a Frog for Christmas. Both bikes £280 ish. DD had an Islabike before. All light bikes designed for children.

There are 2nd hand groups on FB for Isla and Frog and some of them are in excellent condition.

Islabike are fab. We got ours secondhand on eBay, as they are pricy new, and it looked like new and worked perfectly.

I think it alo depens on what you're using it for.
Do you do alot of family rides or is it gor messing about on the street
