Charlie Bone series?

talksensetome · 10/12/2016 20:05

D's got onto Skullduggery Pleasant at that age. They can be quite dark though and the later ones in the series are aimed at progressively older kids. I think it starts aimed at age 9 and progresses up to age 13 as the fan bases would have gotten older as they were released.

SansaClegane · 10/12/2016 20:07

Percy Jackson?

roseteapot101 · 10/12/2016 20:20

terry pratchett does some really good books and the hobbit

StairsInTheNight · 10/12/2016 20:27

It's not that theme, but my son loves harry potter etc, and he really enjoyed the Alex Rider series here linky, they are considered quite cool by that age group, allegedly!

StairsInTheNight · 10/12/2016 20:31

Or this perhaps- my son was really impressed with this Dragonology

Badders123 · 10/12/2016 20:37

How to train your dragon series?

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/12/2016 20:40

How to Train Your Dragon. Ds3 is 9 and is on book 7. He loves the series.

Wallcalendar · 10/12/2016 20:40

Would Discworld be the right terry prachett? Are Alex Rider and Percy Jackdon a bit 'cool'? DS is a (his words not mine!!) 'weird guy' Grin

TheTartOfAsgard · 10/12/2016 20:46

The hobbit? My son read it at 9/10 then started on the lord of the rings straight after. He's on his second read through now

Cagliostro · 10/12/2016 20:48

This is a bit older, but my 9 year old is on the second book and is enjoying it.

AlabasterSnowball · 10/12/2016 20:58

Came here to say Skulldugery Pleasant. Were the only books DS would read when he was younger

GahBuggerit · 10/12/2016 20:59

Beastquest series, my similar aged ds loves them

Tidypidy · 10/12/2016 21:00

The chronicles of narnia

David Edding: The Belgariad

About a peasant boy who is secretly a hidden prince with magical powers and needs to be trained in those abilities and then go save the world.

Great storytelling with light political intrigue. I devoured it as an 9-10 year old.
