Laptop for Xmas?

So my older daughters have asked for a laptop ( they have an iPad already) but said they can do more in a laptop and I was thinking it could be great for their homework as well. Would you get them one even though they gave an iPad? Also it would have to be a cheap one because I'm on a budget... would you just get a cheap notebook computer as it's one of the things they have asked for ?

DD is in y7 and I will be getting a cheap laptop (£150 from Tesco Direct) for christmas. She can use it for homework e.g. Powerpoint for presentations, written homework.
I see the ipad, with no proper keyboard and no MS Office, as being a leisure thing (surfing, drawing, apps)

DS1(14) and DS2(12) are both having laptops this year. We have a family laptop and they both have Kindle Fires for web browsing and games, but they are getting to the age where they need a laptop each for homework to avoid WW3

Should add, both of mine are having Lenovo ones which were only around £150 each.
