Looking for some inspiration. We're having traditional Christmas food on Christmas day itself, (and again on Boxing day when we are visiting DH's family), but am unsure what to do for food on Christmas Eve. We're just eating at home so just me, DH and toddler DD1 to feed, so don't want to do loads. What are you having?

We always have takeaway or a selection of party foods.

AtSea1979 · 08/12/2016 19:36

Ellapaella · 08/12/2016 19:37

We have buffet food from M & S - smoked salmon, prawns, baked Camembert, sausage rolls, spring rolls etc which we put out I the table and everyone helps them self while we watch a Christmas movie. All washed down with a bottle of fizz (me & dh).

Sunnydaysrock · 08/12/2016 19:37

We always have fajitas and nachos. Yummmm.

Heirhelp · 08/12/2016 19:38

I was think mezza, Greek salad, homous, pitta bread, stuffed vine leaves and falafel.

10 of us and we are doing slow roast beef with white bread baps and horse radish. This will be followed by lots of gin. Can't wait!

QuackDuckQuack · 08/12/2016 20:12

We always have a ham, some sort of potato, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage. Not sure about pudding yet though.

ClassmateHB · 08/12/2016 20:13

The children have asked for takeaway, pizza to be precise. Usually I do something in the slow cooker as we are out at church etc, but this year I think I'm going with their suggestions!!

jazzandh · 08/12/2016 20:28

Spaghetti bolognese (batch cooked)...takes minutes to prep and clear away afterwards and everybody eats it quickly and with no fuss!!! Favourite family meal......ice cream for dessert!

DamsonGinIsMyThing · 08/12/2016 20:30

We're off to pub for tea, DP will have a couple of pints and I'll be on the pop.

PoohBearsHole · 08/12/2016 20:32

Only meal this year we are going to have to "do" until 27th. SOOOOOO

Am going to hit the luxury side of Waitrose hard and get pate/cheese/dried meats

Eat whilst drinking and wrapping the final bits Xmas Grin

KitKat1985 · 08/12/2016 20:37

Oooh, I like the idea of having a pudding on Christmas eve too. Maybe mince pies and cream.... Or Yule log. Or both

I have the family descending, so slow cooked gammon in coke with a buffet selection, rice, pasta and salad. As light or as heavy as they want it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/12/2016 21:09

We'll have a takeaway on the Friday night (local Chinese does really really nice tofu in black bean sauce)

Christmas Eve Lunch we have fish fingers for the DC, vegetarian grills for DH and I, chips (homemade triple cooked) .
I usually make trifle but not this year, it sits judgily in the fridge.

Late night buffet - crisps, French Bread, dips, salad, Christmas Cake and mince pies.
And late night TV .

DrowningInPoop · 08/12/2016 21:42

Apparently we're having our big Christmas dinner. No idea what we'll eat on the day itself then!

Ginslinger · 08/12/2016 21:47

we have some sort of casserole or lasagne - something you can prepare in advance and bung in the oven with no problems

daisydalrymple · 08/12/2016 21:51

We always bake our Christmas gammon on Christmas Eve, so I do the red cabbage at the same time and put some jkt pots in the oven too and that's dinner for us as well. (Probably with a couple of different side options, as of course I'm attempting to poison the DC offering red cabbage Xmas Grin)

OSETmum · 08/12/2016 22:04

Gluten free platter from M&S, other buffet rule things but not sure what yet, gluten free Yule log and cream.

My niece is coeliac and the gluten free platter looks good so we might as well all have some.

chocoholic89 · 08/12/2016 22:05

We always have a roast ham, egg chips and bread and butter Wink not forgetting the Branston pickle!

Blacksox · 08/12/2016 22:10

Our (slightly naff) tradition is to buy shed loads of party food from M&S.

We do all our present dropping off, go to Mass, meet friends in the pub and then go home for about 8pm and gorge on tiny burgers and the like.

JustKeepSwimming24 · 09/12/2016 14:03

We always have a mixed hot and cold buffet, and we just pick at it all evening 😬 I get a couple of desserts like Black Forest gateaux and lemon roulade, lots of cream, ice cream, jelly and a trifle. Always goes down well Xmas Wink everything is put on paper plates so no washing up afterwards Xmas Grin

Sallystyle · 09/12/2016 22:23

Usually a takeaway.

Strawclutching · 10/12/2016 05:55

Big seafood buffet.

Crab, lobster, smoked salmon, prawns, bread, salad, mayonnaise.

Spring2016 · 10/12/2016 07:50

Decided today it will be lamb. Had considered getting Chinese food, or making burgers or enchilada's, but dh said he will make lamb.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 10/12/2016 09:56

Takeaway pizza Smile
