Christmas cleaning thread?

NoCapes · 08/12/2016 11:57

Christmas is the time of year that I do those cleaning jobs that I should do every couple of months
The forgotten, not really seen so it doesn't really matter kind of jobs

I've made a list and crossed a few small bits off today, anyone want to join in?

My list is -
Oven & hob
Microwave
Washing machine ✔️
Bins
Under couch
Under living room cupboard
Living room window (always covered in dog nose prints)
Patio doors (baby nose prints)
Dog bed and toys ✔️
Kitchen lights ✔️
Under my bed & wardrobe
Tidy garden
Clean porch
Put unblocker down drains

What have I forgotten?

Love the sound of the den (would rather like a den of my own)
So, not long now good people, school is about to break up and the festivities begin this weekend with guests and parties.
I have now washed all the sofa cushions and spot cleaned any marks on the arms/unwashable bits.
The fridge drawers have all been though the dishwasher and the bottom drawer is accumulating cheese/olives/goodies. Winerack has been wiped (is built in) and is full of bottles - looks great, almost a shame to have to drink them but I will be brave in my efforts Smile
Cupboards are pretty much organised.
I need to do a shop that includes dishwasher tablets and bin bags, (plenty)
Is it tragic that I enjoy these preparations so much?

That's funny nocapes (love the name BTW - can't help but say it in Edna's voice!) my usual go to analogy for the pointlessness of tidying around kids is "like bailing out the titanic with a thimble" :o

No housework done today as we've had the first busy day since Friday. Tutoring and various activities. I will do some laundry but that's probably it!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/12/2016 17:01

Nothing other than the usual housework done today but I've managed to get loads of wrapping done Smile. I'm off out to get the last few bits tonight so will get those wrapped tomorrow & then it'll all be done!

Grumpyoldblonde · 15/12/2016 18:36

My downstairs is perfect (then child comes home and boosh! ) going to do upstairs properly tomorrow. Wrap presents and I'm done bar the fresh food shopping ☺

celeste84 · 15/12/2016 18:41

I'm striving to finish my xmas shopping so i can commence the pre-xmas cleaning blitz. Just need to get my last few bits at the garden centre tomorrow then the shopping is all done. Well except the pre-xmas grocery shop but there should be another thread for that task in itself Grin

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/12/2016 11:19

Grumpy it's disheartening isn't it? Mine are the same they walk in to a perfectly room and whoosh instant detritus Xmas Angry

ferngrubb · 16/12/2016 13:38

I have steam cleaned the bathroom,it is now sparkling and fresh, Dh has been banned from having a poo until after Christmas.

Yep, mine is a human whirlwind, I had hovered everywhere, behind and under things, found all sorts, false nails, popcorn, hairbands - you name it.

I think that's fair enough , make sure you have plenty of bleach and Febreze for boxing day Smile

I have wrapped the presents (well, all stocking fillers) and they are hidden away in the spare room. Only remains for me to get the sprouts on Xmas Smile
I am rather looking forward to the big Turkey and veg shop next week. OH has told me that his firm are giving him a pleasing amount of wine next week to add to my stash.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/12/2016 10:07

Wish me luck folks! I'm attempting to do the kitchen today. It's half way through being done so is a bit of a nightmare & means I'm basically trying to organise chaos.

celeste84 · 19/12/2016 10:53

So what day is everyone hoping to have all the pre xmas clean finished by?

NoCapes · 19/12/2016 12:18

Right, baby is better, he has un-velcro'd himself from me at last and I'm back in the game!
Yesterday I cleaned all the floors downstairs (fuck me they were grim) and had a bit of a clear out of under my bed
This morning I've put away roughly 75,642 items of clean washing and washed about 6 months worth of pots
Now the kids are 'tidying' their rooms (ha!)

It's not going to be as thorough as I'd hoped, but it'll be clean thank God!

Oh and j solved my wrapping paper dilemma at the weekend (the Trafford Centre at 11pm on a Friday night - I must be mad!) but it's sorted, now I've got to find the time to wrap

You've all been so productive without me, good work team Star

I'm in! Will read thread and post properly later.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/12/2016 13:03

Glad the baby is better NoCapes!

I'm using a reward chart for mine this week to get them to help each day. We're on day 3 & so far it's working & keeping them motivated!

The kitchen is coming on well just put all the racks etc off the cooker in to the dishwasher & gave the ovens & hob a good scrub. I'm having a quick coffee then will sort & clean the fridge.

everdene · 19/12/2016 13:29

I am loving this thread!

Trying to balance DH's exhortations that we must relax with my DM's ingrained stressful run up to Christmas Grin

Lots of my to-do list is earning me a 'wtf?' Look from FH!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/12/2016 17:38

Hi everyone! I'm a bit late to this. I'm already on a cleaning thread but I need all the inspiration I can get!

Currently we have Xmas presents waiting to be wrapped and cards waiting to be written all over the house so that needs to be my main plan.

Did manage to pretty much unpack today and put away a huge amount of laundry as we were away for the weekend so have made slow progress. Trying to study as well and can't believe how close Christmas is now!

HighDataUsage · 19/12/2016 21:01

Hello again! Well the party went well without any drama from the dreaded child guest. I suppose he's a year older than the last time and a bit more maturer, I hope.
So today:
I've put the livingroom back together again
I've put away all the laundry.
Washed all the dishes
wrapped all the teacher presents
done a mini food shop
Sorted two bags for charity
Cooked dinner

Goawayquickly · 19/12/2016 21:14

All my big jobs are done. It's about maintenance now. Schools out tomorrow so I expect the house to be a tip by Wednesday.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/12/2016 22:35

HighDataUsage I bet that was a relief!

The kitchen is complete until I put the food shop away on Wednesday. Bathroom tomorrow but that's not bad I just want to give the tiles a good clean.

celeste84 · 20/12/2016 14:16

I will be starting our xmas pre-clean tomo. Everything will be blitzed!!

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Defrost the freezer with a scapel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Mop the floors with dettol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Kill the toilet germs with domestos,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hide the ironing pile under the staircase,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Wipe the kitchens with Zoflora,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
I'll trapse the lounge with the hoover,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don't forget to shine the glasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Spend two days solid cleaning our houses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 23/12/2016 08:56

How's everyone getting on? I'm pretty much done apart from some washing! Oh & mince pie making Xmas Grin

NoCapes · 23/12/2016 09:08

Loved that Celeste Xmas Grin

Just beds and floors to do here!
Never thought I'd get here but the house looks ok, not much washing (got a towel wash on atm) and my lovely mum did all our ironing the other day so we have all our clothes for the festive period, I've done the food shop, so I'm ready to go Xmas Grin

Our festivities start tomorrow so j really wanted to be done for today and it's looking like I will be - hurrah!

My Dd has come down with that dreaded virus and vomiting bug so we are staying home this weekend. I invited my elderly neighbour round for lunch on Sat but have to cancel as I can't risk her getting sick. I'm sad about that because she is on her own and really looks forward to coming. Sad

Dh's sil invited us to her celebrations on Sunday but will have to cancel that now. Christmas isn't part of my cultural celebrations but I have family/friends who do celebrate and I'm always surprised at the way it's organised by some. It almost like a military operation with the planning stages starting in the summer.

So next few days will be spend disinfecting the house and watching telly.

Flowers to all who are busy vacuuming

NoCapes · 23/12/2016 09:10

Oh nooooo HighData Sad hope she makes a speedy recovery ... And doesn't pass it onto the whole house!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/12/2016 09:15

Oh HighData, that is rubbish Sad. Could you do a New Year / postponed meal for your neighbour? What rubbish timing.

Have managed to declutter some soft toys (not nearly enough!) and a few books but not got them it of the house yet unfortunately. Need to be able to get to charity shop without DC to do it!

House is cleanish and have got laundry underway. The pile of Xmas cards is more organised. Need to tackle the wrapping though as our spare room is a mess with stuff waiting to be wrapped and wrapping paper and my parents are coming tomorrow.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/12/2016 09:16

Plus food shop coming tonight so will have to spend a long time getting it to fit in the fridge!
