NoCapes · 08/12/2016 11:57

Christmas is the time of year that I do those cleaning jobs that I should do every couple of months
The forgotten, not really seen so it doesn't really matter kind of jobs

I've made a list and crossed a few small bits off today, anyone want to join in?

My list is -
Oven & hob
Microwave
Washing machine ✔️
Bins
Under couch
Under living room cupboard
Living room window (always covered in dog nose prints)
Patio doors (baby nose prints)
Dog bed and toys ✔️
Kitchen lights ✔️
Under my bed & wardrobe
Tidy garden
Clean porch
Put unblocker down drains

What have I forgotten?

Well I was expecting 24hrs child free which has t happened as my mums not well so I haven't got as much done as I'd hoped for. I did manage to sort out all the stuff I need for Xmas day plates, tablecloths, napkins etc.. And I also cleaned out two big kitchen cupboards.
I honestly can't believe how much rubbish I threw away!

AmyC86 · 10/12/2016 20:35

😭😭😭 it's just taken me 8/9 hours to clean my house ready for the tree. I'm that exhausted I literally haven't got the boost to put the tree up... it'll just have to wait!!

Cagliostro · 10/12/2016 20:57

Keep on keeping on everyone!

Although I haven't actually done any housework to speak of today beyond a bit of laundry. Oops.

I have wrapped lots of presents though as my reward for all the cleaning I've done over the last couple of weeks :o and that has had the pleasant side effect of getting lots of empty boxes, packaging etc

I'm doing a big deep clean today for a party next weekend so I'm trying to summon the courage to get out of bed. There will be a few kids there who are a danger to themselves so the house needs to be safe as well. I wish the parents would keep their devil's on a short leash! Blush

Anyway today's jobs:
Clear junk under stairs cupboard
Bag up toys/books for charity shop drop off
Rearrange sitting room furniture for party
Use said furniture to block under stairs cupboard and other hiding places from devil child
Get dh to get party box down from loft
Sort through party box and write shopping list for items needed
Have bath and nice mug of coffee and chocolate

I'm not looking forward to this child coming, the last party he went to he drunk the entire contents of a v expensive shampoo with a straw. He had to be taken to hospital but parents of child blamed hostess for tempting their darling pfb with the shampoo left in the shower cubicle. which the little darling had to climb into to get at

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/12/2016 10:02

Shock he drank a bottle of shampoo?!

HighDataUsage · 11/12/2016 13:12

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints yes he drunk a bottle of shampoo with a straw and said it tasted fruity!
He also stuck a marble up his nose on another occasion and used a cream kitchen cleaner on his legs like Body lotion. Yet his parents are in denial........

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/12/2016 11:28

Bloody nora! He must have the constitution of an Ox. You're braver than I am to invite him!

Cagliostro · 12/12/2016 12:56

Wow! That's some big issues there :(

Right, I've had a lazy weekend following our epic pre-inspection clean. I have a chronic illness (or 3, but who's counting 😂) so need to not push myself too far, but determined to make some more progress today. I want to build on what we've achieved so far.

DH's next day off is Friday so we will be putting the tree up then.

Grumpyoldblonde · 12/12/2016 13:28

Not too bad here, have cleaned out the food cupboards, given them a wipe and started to move the Christmas goodies into them.
I am going to get rid of as much rubbish as possible as we may have to wait for a bin collection after the big day (went 4 weeks one snowy year)
I think the house is ok, tree up, I want to wash the sofa cushion covers, which is no great hassle. I need to wipe out the fridge and run the drawers through the dishwasher, before I fill it with lovely cheeses and all the fresh Christmas stuff. I wish we had a couple more months to go tbh, not feeling it yet, it's too warm and too wet to be Christmas (and I'm not exactly well of this year)

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/12/2016 14:47

Downstairs isn't too bad here apart from the half completed kitchen so my 'plan' this week is getting on top of the washing & getting the dc's presents wrapped Xmas Smile.

bastardlyandmutley · 12/12/2016 17:33

I am in awe of the cleaning dedication on here. You keep making me think of new jobs that need doing!

Decorations were put up on Saturday and are making the place look untidy [grin} DH has banned me from doing my usual trick of gradually packing some away!

Cagliostro · 12/12/2016 19:03

I wouldn't call myself dedicated Xmas Blush I did manage a little sorting out earlier but I've flagged this evening. Sooo tired.

NoCapes · 12/12/2016 20:07

I'm jealous!
I started the thread then the baby got struck down with the lurgy and has spent the last few days velcro'd to me crying and feeling sorry for himself Xmas Sad

So I haven't got much further along yet - I did get some presents wrapped though, but decided I don't like the papers I bought the boys (too similar) so I've got to go on the hunt for another one I like then decide which to give who- when baby recovers and let's me put him down that is

You're all doing so well

Cagliostro · 12/12/2016 20:43

Clear junk under stairs cupboard
Bag up toys/books for charity shop drop off took 5 bags this am
Rearrange sitting room furniture for party done this
Use said furniture to block under stairs cupboard and other hiding places from devil child not done this
get dh to get party box down from loft done this
Sort through party box and write shopping list for items needed done this
Have bath and nice mug of coffee and chocolate haven't done this

Cagliostro · 12/12/2016 22:23

You've done well! Make sure your next task is that coffee/bath/chocolate!

Cagliostro · 13/12/2016 11:52

Achieved a reasonable amount so far today. I got strict with the DCs and we've sorted through loads of random stuff.

Arrowfanatic · 13/12/2016 19:11

I need to join you guys on this. Frankly my house is a shit tip..Not dirty just unorganised as there are 5 people in this small 3 bed semi and only 1 person (me) ever cleans up behind themselves. Ok, 3 of the people are little but still!!! Doesn't help that I've been decorating lately so housework has been pushed to the back burner.

I have sorted out the 3 kids toys and gotten rid of a load, put my husbands HUGE gym bag away as it's been sat next to the sofa for weeks and don't think he plans on using it again this year, I've also put new flooring down in the bathroom, and scrubbed the hob although that already looks like it needs doing again 2 days later.

I need to clean the bathroom, hoover and mop through out the house, de-clutter the lounge and dining room, clean dining room window sills and wash the dining chair cushions and the covers for the sofas.

Cagliostro · 13/12/2016 20:01

Hi arrow welcome!

DD is just vacuuming her room after I sat in it for most of the day sorting through random stuff. See our problem is that if we need to tidy last minute we just 'stash and dash' i.e. shove a load of crap in various boxes and bags. Xmas Blush But in the last few months, and more intensely in the last few days, I've been sorting loads of them out and it's gradually getting much better. More and more stuff is finding a home, whether that's a home in the house somewhere or in a bin!

I am rewarding myself with a takeaway for my hard work today Xmas Grin

NoCapes · 13/12/2016 20:43

Caglio I think I need you to come to my house - that is exactly what I need to do!
At the moment I can't even wash a cup, the baby will not go down, I'm starting to really stress about how much I need to do Xmas Blush

I've gone through more boxes today well yesterday now and taken another two bags to charity and filled another recycling box. Tomorrow is the last paper recycling day before Christmas so I'm going to be ruthless when I go through the bookshelves and magazine racks later today.

I'm having a party this weekend so I plan to do a deep clean of the bathroom today and the kitchen tomorrow. I'm out of the house all day Friday so realistically I've just got 2 cleaning days left.

The cupboard under the stairs is now free and I've decided to put fairy lights and cushions in there and make it into a little den for the kids. There is a toy storage unit in there so hopefully they can access it now and actually play with what they've got. It gets filled up with boxes and junk so easily that my kids couldn't get to their toy unit, let's see how long we keep it clear for.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 14/12/2016 09:41

I've not been productive so far this week. Will do the usual tidy up this morning then get stuck in once I'm back from taking Dc3 to nursery & watching her Christmas songs later. She's in nursery all day tomorrow & Friday & the baby is generally happy to totter around after me, with his toy hoover Smile, so can hopefully get a good chunk done then.

NoCapes · 14/12/2016 11:26

The baby is a little bit better today and had a half an hour nap in his cot!! Longest he's been away from me in a week!
So I managed to make beds, swap the washing over, put dry pots away and wash about 4 or 5 cups before he woke up - like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic really 😩
