Help - what the heck is Shopkins?

well I can kid of see what it is - expensive plastic tat and loads of it.
But its all my 5yo wants from Santa.

I can see its lots of dolls and tiny toys and then there are kits to build - but where do I start with buying it? I'm at a loss and WWW isn't much help.

Do I need to get a shop of some kind, a doll with coloured hair, and then some of the small face things?

Your guidance will save Christmas.

Just the small thinga are good for my dd2. Seen to be lots of food items with faces. Not sure what she does with them though.

My ds1 (4) loves these and i refuse to buy them as his baby brother tries eating small toys

I've got the 2017 Shopkins Annual in my basket.
And I've ordered 30 small food things from ebay.

5yo is my baby so no chance anyone will try eating them

My daughter went through a shopkins phase and yes they are just bits of plastic but shaped in a variety of things (this year it's Num Noms and Tsum Tsums, so similar stuff).

My daughter is very much into little things like these, like moshis and squinkies and they get put in various little bags, the doll's house, tea cups etc. so I didn't but a playset for shopkins. I don't know if they're worth it. We just bought the shopkin figures themselves and kept some in a loomband case - and got them from Amazon / The Entertainer, so they might be worth a look?

My 6 and 4 year olds love them. We just have the small face things and an annual. I wouldn't bother with a play set.

As pp says don't bother with the playsets, it's all about the tiny plastic things. I don't understand it either!

Are they from a TV show? I've no idea - the kids don't watch that much telly and if 5yo does if Littlest Pet Shop on repeat on Netflix. She doesn't desire any LPS toys though.

BeMorePanda Num noms and tsum tsums have been seen on adverts here unfortunately. I'm sorry if I've introduced them into your life - they are so rubbish!

But my child too also has as 'her thing' tiny plastic toys/random little things.

I have many... many shopkins (and Moshi monsters/ nomnoms/ tsum tsums/ squinkies for that matter)

Does she watch YouTube? Particularly unboxing videos or DCTC?

I would get... depending on budget
One playset: either the tallmall, fashion spree, or the original supermarket.
One mega pack of shopkins (20), and then a couple of blind boxes. You can get the previous series for about £4 for a 5 pack in b and m etc, otherwise you end up paying about £1 per shopkin.

Although we found a limited edition Donna donut once... I literally snatched it off my child on the bus- slapped it on eBay and it went for £180 😍

The giant shopping trolley can be worth getting, usually about a tenner now.

Last count we had 300 shopkins not to mention the countless baskets bags and backpacks.

The shoppies (big multicoloured dolls) and mini shoppies (part of the shopkins happy places - you get a home and can get bedroom packs/ kitchen packs etc) aren't really worth it imo - usually the Barbies end up shopping or the magiclip dolls.

There is a shopkins DVD out though? For variety. And home bargains had colour in shopkins bags... there are shopkins pens.

Oh and shopkins can be used as pencil toppers if you need to justify them? They are practically stationery

Lol you've made me twitch and buy my 5 year old a 30 pack from ebay for her stocking. She's been on and on about wanting them for Christmas, and watches loads of unboxing videos of them on youtube!
