Nintendo DS for 4 year old

DSs 7 and 4 have iPads which they watch films on and play games on. We are thinking about getting them a Nintendo DS as the game functionality is a lot better than on an iPad.

Is it any good for a 4 year old? If we got one for big brother he would be upset and want to play with it but I don't want to spend all that money if he can't even play it.

Does anyone have any opinions?

Thanks

DS ws just 5 when we bought one (dsi, so didn't have the 3D issue to worry about). Same situation in that his older sister was getting one and we thought it might work better for each child to have their own. He took too it pretty quickly, but some games, especially the platform ones were a bit frustrating for him.

He got on well with lets draw, the sam power series and some of the mini game titles.

That said since they have had tablets neither of them have really used the DSs much. If they had already had tablets I don't think we would have got much use from them.

I've got DS(4) a 2DS for Christmas. He plays on his uncles and seems to have got to grips with it pretty well, a lot of his friends in his class have them too. I didn't want to fork out for a 3ds but I got the 2DS for £80 so it won't be a disaster if it doesn't get as much use as I'm expecting.

YY to the 2DS, the 3DS is less robust as it has hinges [bitter experience]
