So tomorrow I am off Christmas shopping and as I have done all the obvious easy stuff online all I have left is the tricky. In the hopes of some inspiration, what is the present you have bought for someone else that you think they are absolutely going to love so you're feeling a bit smug about?

Hopefully this also enables some of you to feel a bit pleased with yourselves/really organised. Unlike me!

I've got DD1 a retro type record player and her favorite Muse album on vinyl. She'll never guess I've got it for her and I'm very smug Grin

I have a couple I am excited to give this year.

For my MIL I have a beach themed photo frame with a picture of her two grandson's on the beach from when we went to visit her this summer. My FIL passed away earlier this year and on the lead up to our summer visit she kept talking about how hard it was to be without him after being together for so long and one of the things she kept saying was she had to make new memories (rather than being upset thinking of old ones). On our trip with had a particularly successful beach trip that was special to her. The photo frame has a photo from that trip and the words 'beach memories' on. I have also made her a photo book of the entire trip and the wedding (my BIL got married).

Aside I am excited about some particular presents for my children. At a fair a couple of months ago there was a stall selling small toys like Moshi Monsters and Shopkins, my son loves small figures and collects all types. He is autistic and loves collections of little things. I let him choose from the stall and assumed he would pick Moshi Monsters as he has a lot of them. Instead he picked out some small Care Bears.

He has played with them continually ever since and he is generally very attached to them. I tried to get some more but they were so expensive on eBay, between £6 and £10 for one tiny little figure second hand. Last week I came across them in Wilkos £2.50 each so he is having some in his stocking from Father Christmas, he is going to go nuts!

My younger son has taken a recent interest in dinosaurs, he has even been saying dinosaur (he is also autistic with speech and language disorder so this is huge for him). He has a cheap dinosaur he spotted in a shop and another one we picked up second hand, his favourite thing with them is for me to make a roaring noise and pretend they are eating his food. I found him a Playskool Jurassic World one that has light up eyes (he loves lights), roars and has a biting motion so it can steal his biscuits even more effectively. He is going to love it.

Some hard to get Adventure Time stuff and R/C BB8 Droid but that's probably because I'm really looking forward to having a go

Musicinthe00ssucks · 04/12/2016 15:24

For DH I have bought a Nintendo Mini. I'm supremely smug about it because he has absolutely no idea and I know he is going to love it.

My 6yo DD has a deep and abiding love for stationery. I've gotten her an assortment of pens, note pads, tiny envelopes, cloakroom tickets, stickers, labels, etc etc. She is going to love it, and our house will be full of lists, stories, "post" and all sorts for weeks! Xmas Wink

I was going to get my husband a boring book about how to make curry (he's really desperate to learn) but then someone here was talking about thespicery.com which is a site that sends freshly ground spices and recipe cards every month for a curry and various side dishes for a meal for four. Got a year's subscription for half price thanks to Black Friday and the more I read the reviews and feedback the more excited I am - DH doesn't know such a thing exists and I know he's going to be thrilled. Plus I get tasty curry night once a month (we might have to make it a kind of special date night or something).

DD is getting a Doc Macstuffins medicine bag which I know she's going to love because she keeps insisting on taking my temperature with a piece of Duplo and diagnosing me with 'Ouchitis'.

DS has a Chewbacca pramsuit. He's so little he won't care but I am very excited about it ;)

WalterWhitesNipple · 05/12/2016 13:43

wombat I love that curry subscription idea! Can I ask how much it was?

The spicery is brilliant. Thanks for the reminder, I was planning to get a couple of the spice kits for a friend.

winterisnigh · 05/12/2016 19:10

Got to be x box, we dont have any consoles in family at all dd will go wild for it ( 9) Toddler - is cd player and I am hugely looking forward to this - as hoping it will encourage her to go to sleep in her own room.

BelfastSmile · 05/12/2016 19:16

DS (2) is getting a toy Henry Hoover, and we reckon he'll be really excited! It comes with a little dustpan and brush, which would be exciting even on its I own, and we're adding in a little cleaning cloth to completely tip him over the edge! He's also getting a box of Cinnamon Flakes, which he's not normally allowed, but which he loves!

Eva50 · 05/12/2016 19:20

I think I'm most pleased with a mermaid blanket I got for DN. I ordered it from Amazon and it was difficult to tell exactly what it would be like from the picture but it's lovely and soft and a beautiful pinky shade. I hope she likes it.

I think ds will like his Minecraft animation set best but who knows!

thegirlinthecar · 05/12/2016 19:31

Tattoo gift voucher for dh . He has wanted one for so long and keeps asking me my opinion and I say no , I think he'll love it

WalterWhitesNipple With the Black Friday deal and Quidco cashback I got a year for £46, although normally it's £80-something. You can get three or six month subscriptions though (I've got my eye on the three month world baking one). I can't decide if I'm more excited at tasty curry every month or us not having a cupboard cluttered full of expensive obscure spices with a pinch taken out of the top!

Take a look at
www.notonthehighstreet.com/thespicery (with Quidco cashback)
www.thespicery.com/

After researching it I know there are other companies that do similar things, but the reviews I've read of The Spicery are really good which is why I plumped for them.

WalterWhitesNipple · 06/12/2016 14:08

Thank you! I'm really tempted to treat myself Grin

MycatsaPirate · 06/12/2016 14:13

Stunning snowglobe for Teen (she collects them) and a book about being a student paramedic.

DD2's lego. All five boxes of it. She's going to go nuts with excitement.

DP I've bought him a watch and just paid for a beautiful painting of a poppy. It's being sent today so will be here tomorrow. My friends got a new gf and she's an artist. I saw a link to her page and fell in love with her stuff.

I just wish I had the £300 to buy the orchid painting. It's beautiful.

It's always the small things that please me most:

I've got my nice SIL an old OS map of the area where she lives, and another of the town where she went to uni.

A friend is doing a tiresome course at the moment, so I got her some nice Paperchase biros, complete with refills.
