We need to:

  • bake some festive biscuits for teachers
  • put up the tree

I need to:

  • pick up one stocking item for DH
  • buy DD's present
  • write a handful of Christmas cards

We all need to:

  • travel to family and spend Christmas away

(will check with hosts what they'd like us to contribute next week)

NoCapes · 01/12/2016 21:19

Have baby Xmas Grin Crab are you Mary?

I need to -

  • Book mum & stepdads present
Wrap kids stuff
  • Buy & write most cards (I've got the kids' already)
  • Book to see Santa/cinema & ice skating
  • Put tree up
  • Clean house (I put this on the list every year, I rarely get round to doing more than I would do anyway)
  • Buy Bucks Fizz!! (every year I forget and end up with a cheapo one from bargain booze on Xmas eve! Every sodding year!)
  • Figure out 1 more present for DS1
  • Buy the dog a present Xmas Blush
  • Probably replace the tin of Quality Street a few times too
NoCapes · 01/12/2016 21:20

Oh baking! Yes we need to bake the Christmas shortbread and mince pies too

mamaduckbone · 01/12/2016 21:20

Everything, pretty much.
Apart from I have bought a few stocking bits for Dcs and hidden them who knows where.
Ds1's birthday is in the last week of November so Christmas doesn't start till after that in our house. I just about managed to get the advent calendars sorted and I've written a few cards for family that my mum's seeing this weekend.

HandbagCrab · 01/12/2016 21:21

No immaculate conception here capes I'm afraid :)

MiladyThesaurus · 01/12/2016 21:22

NoCapes: my local M&S always has a range of Christmassy bucks fuzzy things left even on Christmas Eve. So try there before you need to hit bargain booze. Grin

NoCapes · 01/12/2016 21:24

Oh thanks for the tip Milady I'd never even think of trying there, our local Morrisons sells out of Bucks Fizz by about the 10th December!

CakeNinja · 01/12/2016 21:28

Ah thanks ankle, he's absolutely fine, just had his last dose of antibiotics before bed this evening, was a week ago today! Sweet of you to ask :)

Yes, it's lots for dinner, thankfully dp actually takes care of that side of things, he will sort out the food shopping/meat ordering/cooking, so that's probably easing my stress!

MiladyThesaurus · 01/12/2016 21:33

They did an awesome orange, cranberry and pomegranate Buck's Fizz the last couple of years but seem to have replaced it with blood orange and cranberry. I may have to try it to see if it's as delicious. Just for research purposes, of course.

NoCapes · 01/12/2016 21:35

Oooo I think blood orange and cranberry sounds delicious!
I definitely will not forget this year Wine

NameChanger22 · 01/12/2016 21:39

All the presents are bought and wrapped. I finished that today.

Some of the food has been bought, like chocolates, crackers and alcohol, but there is plenty more to buy. I have a spreadsheet list of food to buy, that gets updated every year.

We still have to put up the tree and decorations at the weekend. We are late this year with that. I once put up the tree up immediately after Halloween.

Christmas cards have been bought, but not written. I have a list ready and waiting though.

I've also already done some pre-Christmas cleaning, like the oven, microwave, fridge etc.

I'm an organised person and I hate leaving anything until last minute.

OhTheRoses · 01/12/2016 21:46

I forgot to mention - birthday cake, cards and presents.

Did that 22 years ago handbagcrab. Have fantasised about Xmas day in bed ever since. Wasn't planned though, he came three weeks early Grin

Monkeybunkey · 02/12/2016 10:42

Still got presents to buy for people at work and extra bits for niece and nephew. Nothing's wrapped yet and the tree won't be going up until next weekend as that's my next day off, when I'll probably also write my Christmas cards. I've also got to work out where to put the tree so the bloody dog can't get to it (we've moved the lounge around since last year). The only food I've bought so far is cranberry sauce (well, and a couple of tubs of Celebrations, but they've already gone so I'll need to get some more). I'm not working the week before Christmas Day though, so I'll do a late-night shop one night that week.

Cagliostro · 02/12/2016 10:49

I realised I have some child free time tomorrow. So I'll do the last few bits of shopping then. Although I'll also have time just with DS in town this afternoon and I could possibly get away with doing some then - if he's got a transformer to look at he'll be totally oblivious to what I'm buying :o

Can't start wrapping yet as next week we have landlords coming to inspect so don't want to get stuff out, although I do have a couple of things I need to wrap early as we are only seeing the recipients before that. So will stick to essentials and not get caught up wrapping everything when there's housework aplenty. dammit

riseshine · 02/12/2016 10:49

I've been in hospital for 10 days, no sign of getting out and have done no Xmas prep at all!

StillSmallVoice · 02/12/2016 11:09

riseshine - hope you are OK, and have people to look after you.

I've done nothing at all yet, except we've decided what we are going to eat on Christmas Day (same as every other year).

It'll all get done in the end. It usually does.

I'm very impressed by all you super-organised Mumsnetters

HettyWainthrop · 02/12/2016 11:14

I have just started buying a few presents. Nothing else done. Just cannot be bothered with it this year. Wish it were January Hmm
