I would really really like a telescope. For looking at the moon. I love the moon. It blows my mind. I'd Prob like other moons and planets and stuff if I could see them. Dh thinks this is ridiculous.

I also want a karaoke machine. I think he fears for his eardrums. God knows why. I have the voice of an angel. Obvs

I would also like a new motorbike helmet that looks like a glitter ball. I think it's perfectly reasonable to get a new helmet in boring colour then have it customised. Again he thinks this is ridiculous. I say- I will be safe and also visible (whilst having a disco ball head. And what's not to like about that??)

What would you really like but won't get?

DH got me a Lumie clock last year - I hate it. You can only turn the horrible glowing display off by setting an alarm. Which means I have to set an alarm - Every. Sodding. Day. I never wanted one, and didn't ask for one. But one of his colleagues who was born in the same county as me told him how much she liked hers, so that's what I got.

I'd much rather of had the Fitbit I asked for. Nope - still haven't got one.

This year I want a new JL rowing top and some hand weights.

Enkopkaffetak · 01/12/2016 22:16

Cook book (I would really like the Jamie Oliver Christmas one)

Most says " you have loads" I do I have close to 200 but I LOVE them. I adore looking at them and I love leafing through them and I have cooked from most of them (not so much since we moved as I am not getting on with the cooker well but I will get there)

Just appears to be a joke in my family however it is something that really gives me a great deal of pleasure.

You can have one of DH's telescopes - please! If you're serious about it, you need to look at Widescreen Centre near Baker Street.
I want:

  • glass boot to drink beer from
  • knitted tube from LT Museum
  • Dalek carrying a cup of tea print
As well as various items from Liberty!
Cindbelly · 01/12/2016 23:06

Rock Paper Scissors lizard Spock tee shirt - DH has never seen tbbt and genuinely believes I have made this up so won't even google it incase it's a wind up
Crochet stuff - same as others apparently I'm too young
Wine fountain and bubble machine - plastic tat
A learn calligraphy set and fountain pen - its 2016 nobody needs to write anymore!

I got an email confirmation from amazon thanking me for my kindle order. I didn't order one so pretty sure that's what he's got me this year. It's a great gift so I'm not complaining really

stumblymonkey · 02/12/2016 06:48

Some great Xmas gift wants here...I'm definitely in favour of buying them for yourself....

I've asked for a couple of things that might seem odd to some people this year....

A Gutermann thread library (basically like a big book of different coloured threads) for my sewing as I only started this year and don't have many colours and it's so annoying to go to start a new project and find you don't have the right colour thread!

Also a veg trug....it's a raised wooden trug to grow veg in.

I think though from overheard conversations between DP and his parents that my wonderful PIL might be getting me both, I heard him say his DF was going to make a veg trug for me Smile

originalmavis · 02/12/2016 07:21

Cinda - ds has that T-shirt! It exists.

Mungobungo · 02/12/2016 22:30

MrsHathaway I looked at the lumie first but the reviews weren't great. Is the Lumie better than the Phillips Ines? the Phillips goes through colour stages, red/orange/yellow to properly simulate sunrise.

plumstone I treated myself to a microfibre hair turban and it's blinking awesome! It's paid for itself a million times over and cost less than a fiver from TKMaxx. Not a crap present at all!

Oh! Thought of another one... it's a disco light thing which spins and flashes in time with music played from the radio/iPhone. My DSis had one which she used to put on alongside lullaby musive when my Dnephew was tiny and it used to hypnotise him to sleep!!! I need one.

chocolateworshipper · 02/12/2016 23:01

I create a wishlist on Amazon, so that DH can click "add to basket" a few times and he's done. I even use the function that allows you to set priority level to make it really easy for him

verytiredmummy1 · 02/12/2016 23:10

I want vouchers (apparently not a present?!) and yoga shit as I want to take up yoga (DH won't buy because doesn't believe I'll actually do it)

On that note those of you that have said you'd like yoga stuff what do I need to start with?

verytiredmummy1 · 02/12/2016 23:14

And now I want a lumie clock too!!

I also love PJs. DH thinks that's boring!

blowmybarnacles · 02/12/2016 23:31

Mungobungo never heard of it or seen it but want that light too now!

MrsDilligaf · 02/12/2016 23:42

Verytired I'd say you absolutely definitely have to go to a class to do yoga because the teacher will ensure your posture is correct. I'm on the fence a bit with DVD's because although I love doing yoga I've been told to do pilates instead (am hypermobile and have a slipped disc)

As with anything you can spend ££££ on stuff, but if you have a Tiger shop near you they had foam blocks for £1.00. TK Maxx is also good for bits and pieces. I have a yoga mat, block and strap, but the studio I used to go to had these anyway. I preferred to practice in close fitting clothes but I had a gorgeous grey goodie for the end of practice cool down.

I miss it Sad

Comic books, jigsaws, a sonic screwdriver, video game related merchandise... I love crochet too...a yarn hamper would be nice!! I'm basically a massive geek, thankfully Dh gets that about me and I've had some rather awesome gifts from him, including an avengers comic book signed by the avengers themselves...and Samuel L Jackson.. Grin

MrsHathaway · 03/12/2016 09:51

MrsHathaway I looked at the lumie first but the reviews weren't great. Is the Lumie better than the Phillips Ines? the Phillips goes through colour stages, red/orange/yellow to properly simulate sunrise.

The Lumie also does different light colours as it gets brighter, and there's something about the particular light spectrum they use which matches natural daylight.

I nearly always wake up "naturally" during the sunrise cycle so that by the time the alarm sounds it's not a horrible shock. Don't get me wrong, I'll still go "fuck that, it's cold" and put my head under the duvet, but it's a million times better than being jolted out of sleep by loud noise without the light change.

I do have to admit that I liked our basic Lumie (which didn't survive a house move) better than our newer mid range one because it's cleverer and has settings we just don't need. That may be what the negative reviews are complaining about. I'd recommend the entry level model to avoid those problems.

I don’t think a telescope is a ridiculous present, providing you know what you are asking for. I asked for a telescope a couple of years ago on a whim and DP dutifully went off to a proper telescope shop (who knew such a thing existed?) and got what was supposed to be a beginner’s telescope, but still a proper one and not a toy IYSWIM.

The thing was massive, I couldn’t lift it by myself and setting it up was a complete nightmare. Over that Christmas I spent hours outside by myself in the cold and dark, and yes looking at the moon was fascinating and I once got it focussed on Jupiter and saw its moons for about a second before it all moved and I never saw anything other than the moon again.

It sat in the corner of our living room for the rest of the year making me feel guilty before I bit the bullet and sold it on ebay, luckily for about £20 less than DP paid for it. I’ve since seen on here the advice for a beginner is to buy a set of good binoculours and a tripod and I keep meaning to do that but haven’t got round to it yet.
