Feeding Christmas cake

My lovely neighbour has made me a Christmas cake and I need to 'feed' it this weekend. Realised that I have no brandy - is there anything else I can feed it with?

Rum

Sherry or Ginger wine.

I've done mine with leftover cointreau from the summer. Nice orangey taste to it xx

Basically, any strong spirit. But I don't think that gin or vodka would work.

I did gin last year and it was lovely!!

Second suggestion for whiskey!

ExploraDora · 26/11/2016 12:05

I'm trying to keep to a budget this year, so I'm feeding it with the booze we have left in which is an inch or two in each bottle. So it's going to be a mix of Cointreau, cherry liqueur and amaretto! My friend does 100% amaretto each year and it is delicious - very marzipan-y though.

Heratnumber7 · 26/11/2016 15:24

Amaretto is a great idea

queenrollo · 26/11/2016 15:31

mine is being fed generous amounts of port.

Any dark spirit. I did mine with Morgan's spiced rum last year it was lush! I've not made one this year and now feeling the urge!

I asked for an alcohol free suggestion last week, and was offered a recipie which was strong black tea, sugar and orange juice. Since I can't get my hands on booze without risking jail time, that's what I'm going for.

fourcorneredcircle · 26/11/2016 17:05

Another vote for amaretto here!

AmyC86 · 26/11/2016 17:08

katieanna it's not too late!!!

Anyou tea is a good option for nonalcoholic soaking

Skala123 · 28/11/2016 13:45

Thanks all. Not a fan of Amaretto so have gone with whisky
