Can anyone recommend a nice nativity set for children?

My ds is fascinated by the nativity story as they're practicing their reception Christmas show at the moment. I'd like to get him a nativity set but one that's suitable for children to actually play with so not fragile and not too adult like!

Any suggestions?

I got a wooden one from John Lewis, around 40 pounds but really nice and hard wearing as well as looking good on display. Its lasted a few years and I expect it to last many more

we have the playmobil one. it comes out every year and DS1 (now 7) loves playing with it.

We have a Playmobil one we got a few years ago - ours isn't quite the same but it looks like this is the current model www.amazon.co.uk/Playmobil-5588-Christmas-Nativity-Stable/dp/B00IJA790C/ref=dp_ob_image_toy

(Sorry, can never work out how to do clicking links on a tablet!)

SoMuchToBits · 21/11/2016 14:56

I was going to say Playmobil too! Nativity set Kings

SoMuchToBits · 21/11/2016 14:59

Ooh, x-post buttered! We also have an earlier version. Ds used to like putting the baby Jesus in the cooking pot... Hmm

CoffeeMad18 · 21/11/2016 15:26

Little people one is lovely and my 10yo still loves it.

Yes we have the one with the fire! Still going strong and DDs (9 and 12) will no doubt want it out this year again. Always have to try and make sure they aren't bouncing the angel on the stable roof, it's made of cardboard and I'm not sure how.much abuse it will stand (figures are fine to play with though, and we're normally..playing "find the cat" when it's time to put it away again!)

The wooden melissa and doug one is nice. We use it as a decoration, but the DC play with it. Its sturdy and looks good too.

SpeckledyBanana · 21/11/2016 15:41

Playmobil here too

SoMuchToBits · 21/11/2016 17:43

Buttered, the current Playmobil one has a proper plastic stable, rather than the cardboard one we had in our sets. A definite improvement I think!

Armi · 21/11/2016 17:59

We have this one - Nativity

N0tfinished · 21/11/2016 18:33

Little People one here too! My mum has one and it gets played with every year!

BurnTheBlackSuit · 21/11/2016 18:36

Playmobil here too. Except it's mine! I do sometimes let them play with it...

NickMarlow · 21/11/2016 18:39

I got dd the wooden asda one last year, which is lovely and very sturdy for little ones. She's getting the happy land one this year, looks great from what i can tell but we won't open the box until the beginning of December!

Gulsink · 21/11/2016 18:46

Yeah, the Asda one's very nice and was a good price when we got it last year. I preferred it over the more expensive versions.

SoMuchToBits · 22/11/2016 07:53

One of the good things about the Playmobil set is you can still use some of it the rest of the year, mixed in with other Playmobil. For example, the 3 wise kings made very good "Foreign heads of state" when we had our Playmo royal wedding in 2011... Grin

Vistaverde · 22/11/2016 11:59

I brought the previous version of the GLTC one a few years ago. It is very sturdy for young children as well as looking good as a decoration.

winterisnigh · 22/11/2016 12:16

the range had best selection i had ever seen last year and all about a tenner

handsfree · 23/11/2016 13:16

Thank you everyone, I think I'm going to get the playmobil one. StarStar

Just to throw an alternative view out there, I got this one after I saw it at nursery and worked out where it was from!

aunicornisnotjustforchristmas · 23/11/2016 15:40

I came on to suggest happyland one.

mrsmortis · 23/11/2016 15:50

How much are you willing to spend? This is lovely but really expensive:

DD1 (now 8) got it for her first christmas and it comes out every year. It's going to be a decoration long afterit's no longer being played with.

SoMuchToBits · 24/11/2016 09:34

Yay! Playmobil! Smile
