What are your 9 year old girls playing with?

I'm looking for a gift for a 9 year old girl that might encourage to play. She's never really been into playmobil or sylvanian etc. She has books, clothes, bath bombs and board games and that sort of thing for Christmas but I was really hoping to get a toy as well. I don't really feel inspired by anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

My 9 year old has asked for Bunchems which is a crafty, pipe cleaner type thing that you can make animals and people from. She has also never been much of a 'player' but loves craft.

The Lego Elves sets are really nice, lots of lovely detail, and might appeal to her more as something to build as well as play with. I bought them for my niece, same age and they went down well and she isn't big in toys.

Something like a jewellery making kit (Fimo, or beads), science kit.

Model horses? Like Breyer or something realistic? I played with had a collection until well into my teens.

She also likes monster high dolls. She's quite crafty too so likes to make stuff. We have loads of Aqua beads that she plays with a bit.
My friends just got her 9yr old a sew cool sewing machine. You can make loads of things with it. I'm tempted to get my dd one for Xmas.

Other that that, I'd say her favourite thing is her iPad. She would be on it all day if I let her.

My not quite 9 year old is the same loves craft things and we have also got a science museum cyber robot as we found last year that she needed something to play with as her little brother will be getting lots of toys. Also got a cheap go pro like camera.

Some good ideas here. Have you seen the sew cool sewing machine in action happy? I think she would probably enjoy that.

Puzzles? Amazeball looks great and I'm buying it for my dd this year. Also some Knex. The Ferris wheel. It looks good and friends 9 yr old ddloves hers apparently. Lego here, too.

Dd 9 also loves Lego Elves, and has asked for a couple of sets. Lego Creator changing seasons house was a favourite from last year.
Sequin art is also a firm favourite.

Dd has asked for an Our Generation doll this year ( aimed at 8 + ) based on American girl dolls. She has never been into dolls but these seem very popular with this age group around here.

Not sew cool, got it last year for 8 year old. Broke on Boxing Day. Replaced, hardly played with it since waste of money.
My nine year olds don't play with toys but they do read a lot, they like Harry Potter, smiggle stuff, Jaqueline Wilson books, MP3 player, quiz games, nice chocolate, clothes, sportswear, Christmas decoration for the tree.
Does she have a scooter, bike, camera, games device, roller skates, MP3 player?
Tickets to a show or event are also good we have done various musicals such as lion king, wicked, Annie etc and recently did a show at the Albert hall.

I think they vary a lot at that age mine have got rid of all their dolls, Lego, playmobile, tea sets, soft toys except a few. They do like making Lego but never actually play with it once it's made.
They like those craft sets in tins.

DD (9) has really enjoyed crafts this year especially sewing and scratch art kits. She also likes her MP3 player (an old one from her sister) and she has a cheap GoPro type camera that she uses a fair bit. She likes reading and Lego and this year has asked for a Rubik's Cube.

Go pro is an action video camera that you can attach to your bike or head. I suspect dd will want to find a way to record trampolining routines.

10 year old dd (year 5) - Beados, smiggle stuff, pug stuff, cushions, fairy lights, pug pyjamas, pug fleecy blanket, having her ears pierced, baby lips lip balm.

I haven't seen the sew cool in action. My daughter has and said it looks good. There are a few sets you can buy to make things with.
Have just seen a poster comment that theirs broke on Boxing Day, so I'm gonna try and check them out before purchasing.
Nothing worse than something breaking so soon after Christmas.

My daughter also has her ears pierced, so will be getting some ear rings.
And pug things here too. Anything with pugs on

Regarding the Sew Cool - I don't have a 9 yo girl but I do have an 8 yo DS who is starting to use my normal sewing machine. Standard sewing machines usually say 8+ in the instruction manual. Do you think she would like one? (Standard machines start at about GBP65 in places like Hobbycraft.) There are some lovely project books for kids around these days.

My dd same age also likes Lego friends, our generation dolls, ever after high dolls. She occasionally plays with sylvanian families. Also bunchems which a pp said.

She had roller skates for her birthday which she has barely used.

Someone on here recommended the Klutz paper fashions books last Christmas, and they've been a HUGE hit - DD's just had her birthday and got yet more extension sets for them.

What about board games? Squared up, exploding kittens, Boggle are all popular here.

Definitely read reviews on the Sew Cool sewing machine. My friend got her daughter one for xmas last year and it has been out of the box once. At the time we had talked about it and she wishes she had sent it back. I had read the reviews and decided due to a thread on here, to get a cheap proper sewing machine from John Lewis - the girls were 10. It wasn't much more and came in a choice of 6 or so colours.

It has been a huge hit, bright blue in colour. I got a kilo of material scraps off Amazon for her to mess around with. She has used it multiple times a week all year and made many great things - puppets, pencil/make up brush wraps, pencil cases etc. Last night she made an eye patch for Children In Need day at school today.

So a sewing machine was a great hit here, just not the Sew Cool one.

I don't think I will go ahead with the sew cool then. Sorry op, maybe wasn't a good recommendation!

Just thought of the wii. Both my girls still use this. They like the just dance games. You can get the console pretty cheap now on eBay. Lots of different games to chose from.

Alors we got the Monster High styling head last year for exactly the same reason. It was in Argos then, don't know if they still have it.

Another on the Sew Cool - my niece had this a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, made all the stuff, and did some other bits on it, but that was about it and she has since moved on to a normal sewing machine, so would echo others in saying go straight to that if you can get kits/patterns to go with it maybe to get her started.

She goes on her tablet or plays schools with her younger sister.

It's her birthday 5 days before Xmas and on her list she has put 'some books' and that is it. Oh and no clothes. Helpful.

She isn't interested in lego, sewing, arts or anything. So loads of books it is.

My dd is 7 and I am really empathising u2. She's also just written books on her list! She has a microscope and hot wires which she loves. And a tablet. Considering a raspberry pi but I don't know if she would actually enjoy it 🤔
