Stockings. No Mantelpiece

Where do you hang your stockings if not on a mantelpiece?
I want to get a fire surround but DH does not. I admit it is primarily for Xmas, to look festive for December and then hang the stocking from on the 24th. Lounge feels so plain without one.
How does Santa get in if you don't have a chimney?

End of the bed - still remember excitement if feeling that heavy weight on my feet!!!!

Could you get identical stockings and just swap the filled one for the empty waiting one?

Bedroom door handle (outside for easy access!)

Ours go in the hall tied to the banisters.

On the floor by the Christmas tree. Has the wow factor when we walk in to the lounge on Christmas morning.

Over a chair/sofa in the lounge. Then any presents that are too big for the stocking can be piled up on the seat next to the stocking.

DD puts hers either on the floor in the middle of the sitting room or the comfy chair in the playroom - depending on which room we've put up the tree. Or the sitting room of the cottage we've rented on the years when we have travelled "down home". It only comes out of the cardboard box it lives in on Christmas Eve, it's not a part of the decorations.

When we were growing up, everyone put an ordinary pair of socks (or tights when the girls got canny!) on a different seat of the sofa (3 cushions), an armchair (2), or unlucky last got the pooffe (sp?!).

As a child they were on the end of our beds. I found out decades later that there were infant TWO stockings, one empty to put out, one already filled ready for santa to do a swap!

We put them at the end of our beds. Can't handle them as they don't have hooks!

Thanks, All. I think we are going to make a hanger thing as per the picture above, and hang them on the banister. I do really miss having a mantelpiece/fire, and am a bit sad that our living room Xmas decorations won't feel complete.
