Just wondering what your parents buy you for for xmas?

Lots of threads on here about what we are all getting our dc for xmas, what is the 'right' amount to spend etc. I was just wondering how much your parents spend on you for xmas and what type of gift(s) you all get?

As a child both my parents were very generous with xmas gifts (they are divorced so x2 lots of pressies for me). I think it was because my dm was so festive she loved it. even though as a single mum things were tight, she saved hard all year for our xmas presents. My dad was a typical disney dad and just spent loads out of guilt probably.

Since I have grown up (40) there gifts have seemed somewhat frugal - don't get me wrong, i don't really need or want anything, it just got me thinking. My df will usually now just buy me a bottle of something (nice wine, gin, vodka) although, he just brings it to xmas eve tea, so i'm not sure if its just a hospitable thing as a guest. My dm will usually buy me some kind of tat that probably costs less then £20.

I should add that both of them are comfortably off money wise, and i really don't mind. I just wondered if this was the norm as we get older! :)

My parents get me a bottle of perfume, PJ's, candle, No7 bath set and a £50 voucher for the hairdressers. Every year without fail.

I think it is the norm. My parents still spend far too much a fair bit on me (probably around £100) but they also now buy presents for DH and DD. Added to which they are also buying for BIL and 2 other DGC so their christmas present list has grown substanially over the last few years.

DM stopped doing me a stocking which I thought was absolutely outrageous so DH does it now

My parents usually buy dh and I a joint gift. Restaurant voucher. Or tickets to a show. One year we got a top box for the car (lifesaver!!!).

Mil does us a hamper with wine and liquor and treat foods and some classic tinned goods, cheese, that sort of thing.

Fil doesn't get us a gift he sends a card.

Nothing. And I'm absolutely happy with that, they've got 10 grandchildren to buy for and that's where they spend their money, generously. I do get a birthday present though, usually a very nice bottle of fizz, and that'll do nicely!

Last year I got a bottle of perfume, some underwear, some PJs and a purse.

This year I'm getting kitchen knives (on request)

My parents probably spend about £30 on each of us (there are 4 of us all in our early to mid 30's). More of their money goes on the grandchildren, which is perfectly fine with us.

My dad since I turned 12 has given me a cheque. It's very kind of him but I'd rather he spent only £1 on a chocolate bar and wrapped it than the dreaded envelope without thought.

My mum is awful at gifts one year I got a Nando's chopping board, last year she got my the most disgustingly squeaky cheap slanket that I couldn't touch. She thinks these gifts are funny but I'd rather she saved her money than buy tat like that.

My oh is shite with presents too. I gave up on Christmas presents being useful or fun a long time ago. I'm not hard to buy for but if I say oh I'd like that (lush bath bomb for example) he'll forget and buy me a ducking Alan titchmarsh book (ok that was a birthday present but still)

Nothing and I'm not happy about it!

My DF and his wife have decided not to get adult children gifts anymore. Which would be fine except that I'm the only adult child out of 4 and my DM is dead so I get nothing at all and the 3 other children get gifts from 2 sets of parents.

Seems a bit unfair to me

And when I say 'children' they are in their teens and early twenties.

Nothing....they're both dead but when do was alive got £25 cheque

My parents are divorced and fairly well off. My mum always spends heaps about £200 on me. Last year she bought me a down feather coat and some other bits. This year she's getting me lots of Aveda skin care. She usually spends about £50 on my husband. She doesn't go overboard with our son though. She only spends about £20 on him. My dad usually gets my husband and I a joint gift. One year it was an Nespresso machine, last year it was a Nutrininja. Again he only spends about £20 on our son. I guess they think it's our job to spend lots on our child therefore they get us expensive gifts. My husband's parents on the other hand don't get any of us anything! Ever. Not even a birthday card or Christmas card!

Well i feel spoilt....my parents spend about £300 on me and my brother each. (30&36)

But to be fair we all go mad at xmas, its not like i only spend £20 on them in return. I've spent about £100 on each of them, plus will buy them nice biscuits / wine / chocolates when i go at xmas.
On the other hand birthdays arent a big deal in my family.

My parents get me and MrNC a token item, often clothing or food, and a cheque or a card saying they have put money in my bank account.

Have done pretty much since I was 18, unless there was something specific I wanted, and even then I tended to get a cheque with "this is a bicycle" written on it, which I found pleasingly surreal.

Usually a new m and s dressing gown. Gratefully received.

My parents buy me what I ask for - literally; we all make lists of what we'd like in our family and pass them round. They spend about £50 on each of us, a little more for birthdays. They are comfortably off, so I don't feel guilty, and it's reciprocated.

Mine didn't get me anything but were very generous in other ways. Still made me sad though.

My mum is contributing money towards plastering this year. We're very much a practical gift giving family.

I get about £200 spent on me for joint birthday/Christmas. (My birthday is 23rd December) My brother who is 3 years younger gets about £250 spent on him and my teenage brother gets about £900 spent on him. The obvious favouritism really annoys me

Nothing since I was 18. Never bothered me, I hate pointless gift giving.

My sibs and I usually club in for a large gift for my mother, father is deceased.

My df and dm have bought us a holiday this year otherwise we couldn't afford it and this years been tough , very grateful they normally spend quite a bit on all of us anyway but don't have to x

In my 30s and my parents still buy me a 'main' present (well, they give me an amount of money and then I chose a pair of shoes etc) and still buy me little bits like lip balms, bath stuff, scarves etc. When I had dd they said they would get me less but I can't say I've noticed! They like getting me and my brother Christmas gifts. I can see as dd gets older though and starts to get Christmas they will get far more for her than me which I would be able to enjoy too!

I've been nc with my parents for 6 years so they don't spend anything however my in laws spend about 150 each on me and my dh we got 100 to buy a main present (this year ghds for me and cashmere scarf for dh) and then mil buys us surprises with remaining 50.00 usually all very nice last year some Lancôme make up and a joules scarf

Mine are dead now. My father died when I was quite young but my mother (who didn't have a lot) gave me a cheque for £100 each year to buy things for myself, dh and our three boys. She always came to us at Christmas and would buy a few little bits ie, a nice soap, a book, socks etc because she knew I didn't get much else and would spend her cheque on the boys. She would also give me £30 in a card "to get something in the sales". She was a good 'un.

Clothes. Which are either something I would have loved as a teenager (you like black don't you) or some frumpy middle aged nonsense from Per Una.

We (DP & I) are pretty spoilt at Christmas.

I would say we both get between £400-£1k of gifts and cash from our own parents and then £200 or so from our PIL.

We're very lucky though....both sets of parents are financially comfortable, DP is an only child and I am one of two so not many to spread it around plus neither set of parents has grandchildren yet so we are still the 'children' of both families even though we're 34 & 37.
