Hair straighteners or straightening brush?

Dd2 (13) has asked for hair straighteners. We already have 2 in the house, one belonging to me and one to dd1 which she can borrow.

I'm not sure whether to get her her own ones or get a straightening brush instead...? Any thoughts?

Get her some of her own. It's what she's asked for and it's rubbish always having to borrow your sister's stuff . Also imagine if yours and dd1's both broke- think how grateful you'd be to have more in the house!

Another younger sister here! And I agree with pp. If she's asked for her own, then I think she'll be disappointed if she gets something else. Especially as they essentially doc the same thing.

Just one more point, forgot to mention - dd is dyspraxic and really struggles with hair. I've always done the straightening for her so far. I think maybe that's why I thought the brush would be easier for her to manage...?

I'm interested to know if anyone has tried a straightening brush?

Dancer, in your case I think I would be inclined to buy the thing she has asked for, at 13 mum ideas are never right

Straightening brushes are around £20-35. Could you buy both?

If you are worried about her burning herself if she struggles to use hair straighteners you could always buy some heat protection gloves from eBay, they are available between £1-£2 usually with free postage too if you find the right seller. I plan to get them for my DD as she wants hair straighteners but struggles to do it herself. I'm also trying to teach her the trick of tipping her head upside down so her hair hangs over and she can see it whilst straightening if you see what I mean?

The straightening brushes are CRAP.

I bought the JML straightening brush and it is, sadly, rubbish. I'm glad I only used points to pay for it and not actual money.

Definitely get her the straighteners. She will probably be able to manage to do it herself after a bit of practice

I really like my straightening brush. It doesn't straighten as much as my ghds but it definitely makes a difference. I've bought my niece one for Christmas after she borrowed mine and loved it

I've just got a straightening brush, I have VERY curly hair but it is quite thin and the brush is soo much quicker than straighteners, it doesn't give you poker straight hair but it keeps the volume in and is perfect for everyday, leaves my hair smooth and soft and it's quite cool to touch unless you put your fingers in the brush!

Was just reading through the thread and thought your DD may benefit from one of those heat resistant gloves you can get so that she can practice straightening her hair herself without worrying about burning her free hand?
