Anyone seen anything for a 9 year old boy related to archaeology or Robot Wars?!!

I'm just running through his (non-electronic!) interests to see if I can come up with ideas with gifts/stocking fillers....

Mine was given a dig out the dinosaur bone kit last year. He enjoyed it; I was a little at the mess.

He also has the battling transformer hexbugs which might fit bill for robot wars? Again a hit.

Not exactly...but my DS is 8 and likes similar-ish things. He is eyeing up the Teksta robotic scorpion which is remote controlled and amongst other things can fight with other scorpions (not that he will have another one to play with but a friend might!) Hexbug also do battling spiders and battling robots??

My DS has expressed more of an interest in geology/rocks/crystals so I'm wondering about getting him this to start off his collection. There maybe something similar more archaeology related. Or books?

In fact just seen there is a junior geo fossil set which might be more related to your DS's interests.

I bought this for a friend's grandson and was a bit when it arrived.

Arena's pretty small & flimsy, & I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but it was half price at £10 (still is) so maybe it's worth that? Am out of touch with kids' toys & games so I'm just hoping he'll like it.

Maybe it would make a good little extra for yours?

I am sure there is a childs archaeology magazine or club

GreenGinger2 are you saying you've tried all your suggestions and the first was the best? Would you recommend for a 9 year old as some of the reviews referred to younger children ?

Lego mindstorms. It's expensive £190 and so clearly a main present or something that a few people club together to get but it's a very good robotics starter set which won't become redundant as he becomes more advanced.

All were fab. Crystal Mining and book would be my pick. My dd was 9 or even older,her older brothers loved it too. You dig them out and then identify them via the book in the set. Dd loved all the NG books but was fascinated re rocks so one in link went down v well and enhanced said set.

Geodes a bit hit and miss ie you don't know what is inside and can crack them open in bits.

How about an activity with digventures.com

My 9 year old is getting a raspberry pi and kits including a robot he will be able to program using the pi. I know that's electronic but robot wars is rather electronic! Meccano? Or google Edison the robot, inexpensive and simple, can be programmed using computer or made to work with an old tv remote and you can build him into anything using Lego.

Avery I've got the 3 camjam sets that are sold through the pi hut. The pi hut is the best place to buy add ons as you know for definite all the adaptors will be the same. The first set is dead simple little electronic circuit, the second a bit more complex and then the 3rd builds into a little rover.
