Skateboard for a 4yo?

Nearly 4yo ds is desperate for a skateboard. Is this a terrible idea? What would you get them? (Obv helmets, knee pads and cotton wool will be part of the package!)

My DS has been skate board mad from about that age! (he's now 14 and 6ft tall .
Start with a penny board, much smaller and easier for little legs. They also come in a huge range of colours!
Knee pads, elbow pads, gloves and a helmet for protection.
