Christmas book recommendations for an older child/teen?

I collect Christmas books, particularly vintage children's Christmas books. We get them down from the attic at the beginning of December and read several a day to get through them.

On Christmas Eve the dc get a new Christmas book each and we read them and The Night Before Christmas before bed.

It's getting harder each year. DD is 9 and a v able reader so reads more teen stuff. I'm struggling this year. Last year I went a bit off piste and bought an old copy of The Railway Children which isn't a Christmas book but has a great Christmas message.

So, are there any gems I've missed for older children?

I've bought this for 5yo DS and it's very funny if anybody wants a recommendation in return.

I enjoyed the Box of Delights and The Dark is Rising at that age, but if you are a collector you may already have these!

The Robert Sabuda books would still interest someone of that age I think.

How about a Christmas Carol by Dickens?

We have three copies of a Christmas Carol. DD's copy is the Robert Ingpen illustrated one. It's beautiful. Good suggestion though, she loves it.

We don't have Box of Delights actually. That's a fab suggestion.

I have a Sabuda pop up book but it's not a Christmas one. Just had a look at his Winter's Tale and it's stunning.

Would A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig be too young, do you think? It's lovely, really in the spirit f Christmas classics, and has great pen and ink illustrations. We got it for 9 yo DD last year and she'll be getting the companion book, A Girl Called Christmas this year in her stocking.

Sorry, I meant The a Girl Who Saved Christmas.

Have you got Little House in the Big Woods,The Snow Sister by Emma Carroll, The Christmas Star by Eva Ibbotson,Nancy and Plum,The Family Under the Bridge and Greenglass House?

Wells and Wong series have a new book out- Mistletoe and Murder

Ballet Shoes isn't a Christmas book but has a couple of great Christmas scenes in it. Ditto Little Women.

DD really enjoyed The Thirteen Days of Christmas when she was about 10 or 11.

And A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas is a (short) classic.

Your suggestions were brilliant. Little Women is one of her favourites too. She had that and The Water Babies from my Mum last year.

Arthur Ransome's Winter Holiday is nice for Christmas.

The Christmas myesteryear by hosting gaarder. Each chapter is part of an advent calender so it's a perfect countdown

Have you got "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" by Barbara Robinson. I remember it being quite amusing

how about Lost Christmas? Suitable for your older daughter.

All of the Laura Ingalls Wilders have good Christmas scenes, but esp Little house on the Prairie.

I think one if the Green Knowe ones does too.

I love the 13 days if Christmas. Makes me laugh every time.

One of the Antonia Forest Marlow books , ? Autumn term? Has a brilliant Christmas bit in it.

If you want the actual Christmas story, Jan Pienkowski's Christmas is the best... superb illustrations. ( mind you, ds was appalled to discover that there was no record if an elephant at the nativity a bit later on,,)

And for littlies, Jesus' Christmas party.
