My ds is almost 3, I find myself buying him things too old or too young for him sometimes, and waste money. This is his Xmas list (that I made) are these things age appropriate and do you think he'll love them (he is oldest DC so not really down with the age appropriate toys..) I have bought most of these already just not the toot toots or Playmobil but can easily return :)
He already has scooter, play kitchen, sit in remote control car, basically everything..

Agree that's a lot of toys!

Is this the list of toys that you're thinking of buying from, rather than planning on buying everything?

In terms of suitability for an almost 3 yr old -

Baby annabels brother - ok
Jcb digger ride on - yes, we have one and my 3 yr old loves it
Magic sand - no. Too messy, gets everywhere and a right PITA to clean up
Play dough play date set - yes
Balance bike - yes
Play foam - don't know what this is
Mr potato head - yes
Remote control car - too old
Toot toot school - ok
Toot toot remote control set - ok
Fireman Sam pontypandy play set - ok
Post man pat play set - ok
Crocodile dentist - don't know what this is
Teletubbys talking soft toys x4 - ok, but will they work well as toys once batteries run out?
SpongeBob walks talkies - too old
Gelli bath - don't know what this is
Lady bird night light projector - too young?
Lego duplo basic bricks - ok
Lego duplo rocket - ok
Lego duplo tractor - ok
Wooden pirate ship - dependson particular one. Some are ok for that age, some would be too old
Rocking caterpillar - too young
Chad valley trampoline - ok
Tumble train - don't know what this is
Chad valley aeroplane - ok
Pop up pirate - maybe too old?
Tomy foam cone factory - don't know what this is
Chad valley light and sound fire engine - ok
Extra toot toot RC car - ok
Chad valley grand piano - ok
Track master Thomas shipwreck set - too old for a 3 yr old to manage alone. You'll spend a lot of time putting it back together for him IME
Bus toy - ok
Playmobil water park play area - ok
Dinosaur egg - don't know what this is
IKEA easel - yes. We have one and my 3 yr old likes this
Desk and chair - ok, but I wouldn't give furniture as a Christmas present
My first helicopter - what toy range is this?
Power rangers figure - OK
4 talking dinosaurs - depends on particular dinosaur range, some might be too old
4 Disney DVDs - generally ok but depends on particular DVD

DD is 3. She is getting a stocking and a bike from us. I am going to suggest other gifts to family like clothes, My little pony, new Duplo but honestly, that'll be enough!

Aw I see the love in this list Smile I have to restrain myself sometimes as there is so much cool stuff about and want to get everything for my dc but I think this is too much for one occasion. I'd just get one of each type of toy eg one duplo set, one play set e.g thomas/fireman Sam/postman pat, one craft thing e.g playdoh - the sand is a nightmare, one game, one transport toy eg bus/helicopter/pirate ship, one outdoor toy etc. Then you can see what he grows to play with and use that to guide you for his birthday. Think about what he plays with at toddler groups or the type of toys he always plays with at home and use that as a guide rather than ages on a box.
Plus you do know he'll want to play with all the boxes don't you Wink. One the best and cheapest things we did for my dc one year was to wrap a huge box up and fill it with balloons - everything else was ignored.

Wow, way OTT, your son will be overwhelmed with so many gifts and won't enjoy it.

OP, is this just a list you have compiled for grandparents etc to choose a present from, or are you actually planning to buy him all these things? You must know this would be a ludicrous amount of toys to give any child for Christmas. in fact I don't really believe you could be serious about getting him all that... Hmm

Bumwas what a disgusting thing to say to someone, of course this isn't a 'stealth boast' and I don't have any social media accounts at all so posting pictures on them would never happen, take your judgey pants off please, idiot. And it maybe a lot of presents but I wasn't asking about the amount I was asking about the age appropriation? Thanks for everyone that has helped me with this, really helped and I've chopped and changed some items :) I'm all done for Christmas now!

If the playmobil is 123 then get it. When you say list surely you mean those are your ideas and you are going to pick four or five gifts from the list?

4 Disney DVDs -depends which ones. If Toy Story is one, I'd go for a Buzz Lightyear instead of one of the many vehicle toys.

DS is similar age and loves crocodile dentist. He also loves magic sand. The main one I think would be a waste of money is the caterpillar

Wow there's some pretty nasty responses on here! OP I think the sand is a dodgy idea just because it gets everywhere (eyes are not fun with sand in them!), the rest of it sounds fine and if you want to buy that amount of stuff then do it, never mind what anyone says. Ours tend to get a lot for birthdays/Christmas from us and family so I stagger the opening times over a couple of days and also put some toys away in a cupboard, that way if we have a rainy day or a day stuck in the house there's something new to do. Ignore all the negative comments, it's nobody else's business what you buy your own child.

That's way, way too much stuff - you are basically making all of it pointless because he won't have the time or attention span to focus on that volume of things!

Something you want
Something you need
Something to wear
Something to read

It might be worth reading the thread about toys that arent worth the money.

When is his bday? Could you save some until then?

What I found with my kids was that the plastic guff with flashing lights held absolutely no interest for them. They're one-trick-pony items. Once you've made it dance or cry or shit or beep-beep there's nothing else to actualy do with it. We get far more use out of construction items that can always be made into new things, puzzles, games and suchlike...

One or two Duplo sets, one or two games, one playset, easel. Creative and social. Done.

Playmobile are very small and fiddly and I think two's too young.

Sand? Foam? Do you have a particular love of cleaning up slimy, sticky messes?

You don't need to buy the whole store. What will you buy him next year now you've covered the entire 2-4 age-range?
