What would you have instead of a Christmas Tree?

We are going to be away over Christmas, so won't be putting up a tree at home.

I still want to decorate a bit though.

Any nice ideas of ways to decorate the house to make it feel pleasantly Christmassy, without a tree? We will be back for New Year, so I want it too look welcoming - maybe wintry rather than Christmassy.

So far, I am planning to put a wreath on the door, and we usually have a nativity scene out, but I haven't really thought further than that.

A twig thing with baubles on or some bases filled with baubles.

Do you have a mantlepiece over a fireplace? If so, decorate it with tea lights and a fake greenery swag.

I have a huge tall glass vase that I fill with white lights. It looks really pretty. ( I copied the idea from a Christmas display in a garden centre!)
As mentioned, baubles in wide bowls also look really effective or a couple of Poinsettia plants on the fireplace.

I love the net of fairy lights that covet a lot of a feature wall or window

Candles, candles and more candles
