What to buy my 6 month old DS for Christmas

A friend is getting this for her 6mo. Seems a little spendy but I think it's her dd's only gift and looks like it would last her a fair few years!

I'd also do a sensory basket. Both mine had them and they were well loved. Fill a basket with household objects of varying sizes shapes and materials. The baby will love exploring it. We had stuff like a sponge, an old cd, a plastic bottle half full of dried rice, a shower shimmy, a light up ball, a maracas. Etc.

First Christmases are lovely. How about a colourful edition of The Night Before Christmas, loads on Amazon. Make a tradition of reading it to him every year. Then some little bits and bobs to play with in a stocking; bath toys, soft ball, Christmas socks. He really won't mind!

My DS was roughly six months at christmas. Things he really got lots out of over the following months were the vetch walker, lots of touchy feely/lift the flap books, stacking cups, a muktisebsiry elephant from mamas and papas...

But to be honest he had no idea what was going on and all the excitement/change in routine was too much for him and he spent most of Christmas Day crying asdid all the other babies from our antenatal group!

My honest advice: first lower your expectations and then buy him whatever ridiculously lovely outfit/toy you want to get him. keep it as quiet a Christmas as you can - plenty of happy chaos on its way in future years

A jumperoo. My ds was 6 months at Christmas and was brought one. He absolutely loved it. He used it daily until he was too heavy for it. Enjoy your first Christmas.

2nd child, she'll not care so might as well be something useful.

Think about what he might need to support his development over the next 6 months until his birthday. He will need lots of things to explore his sensory exploration, so things that he can pick up easily and can be put in his mouth safely but can be wiped clean. Also things that might support his physical development. Balls or chunky cars that will encourage him to wriggle and later crawl after. Cause and effect toys like ball drops will be fun from around 9 months, be careful of buying into all the big expensive toys that actually do very little.

Smaller treasure bag that will fit in his changing bag for when you're out and about
Balls in different sizes/textures
Chunky cars
Simple musical instruments like shakers and bells
Some sort of electronic interactive toy
