Over the past few years we have enjoyed the following:
Orchard Games - cupcakes, shopping list, ladybird
Matching games
Dominoes
Uno
Fishing game
S&L
Dobble
Kloo (reading game - not a hit)
Haba's The Orchard

We have Charades for Kids, Operation and Coppit which haven't had much use but may be better this year now that the youngest is 4.5
We also have various counting/shape card games.

I was wondering about getting Connect 4 for Christmas - any other ideas??
Ideally ones we can play as a family so has to be something the 4.5yo can do as well as being of interest to the 7yo!

I'm getting My First Carcassonne - I like the grown up version and it's been recommended to me for those ages. www.boardgameextras.co.uk/item.php?id=2563&name=My+first+Carcassonne&cat=1&sub_cat=5#.V_UCQzR4WnM

Enchanted Forest
Labyrinth

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/10/2016 14:43

I'd skip the my first cArcassonne personally and go for the normal version, if you play without any extensions it is very simple, my 4 year old plays well and has done for a while. It is nice that we can play with differing levels of difficulty depending on which children we are playing with or if we are playing by ourselves.

Humidseptember · 05/10/2016 16:50

Enchanted Forrest, sleeping queens, sushi go, rat a tat cat and I have not got it yet but I believe Camels up is brilliant?

imsorryiasked · 05/10/2016 17:09

This one has been recommended to me.

Haba animal upon animal

supercaliforniasurfer · 05/10/2016 17:18

Labyrinth is great, also Cadoo if you can find it.

Have a look at the brain box series, there are loads of them and are different levels. We always give the younger one double time as an allowance.

supercaliforniasurfer · 05/10/2016 17:19

Orchard games - pop to the shops was also very popular in this house for a loooong time.

LittleReindeerwithcloggson · 05/10/2016 18:05

Definitely labyrinth. Rat a tat cat, Dobble and sleeping queens also great favourites in our house

LittleReindeerwithcloggson · 05/10/2016 18:06

Junior scrabble is ok too - my 4 year old niece plays too

LikeTheShoes · 05/10/2016 18:14

Junior monopoly is good too, normal monopoly is awful though.

Hey that's my fish is awesome

EmGee · 05/10/2016 22:06

Thanks everyone - just done loads of research and read reviews on Amazon and have ordered two Brain box games, Labyrinthe Junior and Haba Animal on Animal. Rat-a-tat cat looked good too but will wait til it comes down in price on Amazon.

sum swap was a hit here, also monopoly junior. Not a board game but our 5 year old DS loves frustration!

doineedhelp · 06/10/2016 11:37

apologies - sum swamp not swap

oobedobe · 06/10/2016 14:40

I have got my girls (4&8) a melissa and doug game called Don't be greedy, it looks fun and they will adore the jewels and treasure boxes.

Forbidden Island is popular with our 9yo & 4yo as is Connect Four.

The 9yo has been playing Carassone for a couple of years and the 4yo will play when paired with a parent.

Toomanycats99 · 06/10/2016 17:01

Fish Stix is brilliant, 4 yr old can play without help but still enjoyed by 7, 9 yr olds and grown ups.

EmGee · 06/10/2016 21:17

So many suggestions!
In addition to the games I have bought on reccs from here, I have also bought Wilko's version of Connect 4.
Tempted by Oobedobe's Melissa and Doug jewellery game. Think my girls would love that!

Have you got guess who? That goes down well with my kids of a similar age and they play it together.

Minion monopoly is another favourite in this house.

notasausage · 07/10/2016 11:51

Bug in the Kitchen is great fun
Connect 4
Guess Who
Othello
Party Party is also a big hit here.
