Ideas for what to put in a toy doctor's bag

DS1 (will be nearly 5 at Christmas) has decided he wants to be a doctor. Well, actually he wants to be an astronaut, but he's quite like to be the physician on space missions, as long as they still let him walk on the moon.

He's been eyeing up toy doctors kits but they look a) babyish and b) like they'd fall to bits. So, I had the bright idea of making him one containing real medical items. I've bought him a children's size working stethoscope, a penlight and some bandages and plasters but can anyone think of anything else and, more importantly, what to present it in?

Ooh, those things Drs use to look in your ears. I can't think what they're called but you can definitely get them from Amazon. (I might've looked because I'm quite from and would really like to be able to look in everyone's ears!!)

Helena can I ask what you put in the teacher version? Smile

NotSayingImBatman · 03/10/2016 21:27

Mycat I did a teacher one for my niece. Got lots of interesting looking pens, stationary, a teacher lesson planner book, stamps for marking work, stickers etc.

Thanks Grin

Sick notes, made up on the computer obviously. A pen for all the form filling. A first aid book. Pity they don't make tiny latex gloves.

Clipboard, printed registers, laminated reward charts, pens, pencils, reward stamps, stickers, a little annoying bell, pack of exercise books...

I am with Liney, the bag is a great idea but the sweets in medicine bottles idea is dangerous.

Everything else sounds fab though! Maybe a little white lab coat or mini scrubs?

Hand sanitizer gel and baby wipes. My DS had a little dictaphone in his that he recorded his medical observations into and played them back.

At nearly 13 he still collects medical bits and has a very large first aid kit collection. He loves getting a first aid kit/ bits from everywhere we go so we have plasters and bandages with all sorts of languages on them.

You could have some real fun with Alien treatments for his space missions.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2016 08:25

Definitely the hand sanitizer! I suppose you could make some 'pills' out of cardboard.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2016 08:29

Forgot about the aliens - ok, for some of the silicon based lifeforms, a trowel and mortar (dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a bricklayer!)Grin

Now I really want a Doctors bag,Grin.

lemonymelanie · 04/10/2016 12:23

I put a nit comb in when I did this. DS loved his "real" doctor's bag

op where did u get stethscopeplease

NotSayingImBatman · 04/10/2016 15:07

This is the stethoscope that I've bought. Running with the little trolley theme, I've bought a little plastic set of storage drawers on wheels that I'll make into a little supply/crash cart.

My Mum got me that when I started medical school, not realising it wasn't a 'proper' one Grin. It's an ophthalmoscope with an otoscope attachment. The light works and you can change the magnification but I can confirm you can't really use them to look at the back of someone's eyes! Comes in a nice little pouch with extra ear bits and stuff though.

I wouldn't do sweets as tablets. Stupid idea, sorry Confused
