Gifts for 6yr old girl in NZ

Posting in the hopes that any antipodean mumsnetters can help as they begin a new day!

I'm looking for a present or presents for a 6 year old girl in NZ which will need to be sent from the UK, so will need to be fairly light and non-breakable. Budget around £30. Not sure what toys are popular there these days and what TV shows etc they have.

She's a typical 'kiwi kid' so spends lots of time outdoors and is pretty active, but also enjoys games, crafts etc.

I already have a dress from the summer sales and a sequin craft kit but need something a bit more 'wow'.

What toys are popular in NZ this year?

How about one of these books, the postage is free worldwide and they do a deluxe edition. If she has a short name you can use a middle name too (just hyphenate it). We have sent one abroad in the past.

M&S do free delivery to Oz nearer Christmas - they might do NZ too. Otherwise, could you order something from a NZ site? Pay for it to be gift-wrapped, or else ask her mum and dad to do it for you.

Thanks both. I will have a look at the Lost My Name book. I always like to buy something personally and wrap and send it. It's a weird tradition between my friend and I (the mother of the 6 year old girl).

My nephews live in NZ and I usually order from thewarehouse.co.nz. It's a nationwide chain which is really reasonably priced and stocks lots of toys. I am currently in NZ and was in there the other day and there are lots of great summer toys out, many water related. For my nephews I would order from there and get them delivered to my sister and she would wrap them for me. Makes it easy for them to return too if they already have it.

I'd say the main difference here is a lack of variety of toys, e.g. my dc liked fireman Sam but you can only get about 4 vehicles and the fire station here, I know in the UK you could get loads of things. So maybe you could find out if she's into anything in particular and get something that isn't available here? The other thing I could maybe think of is there's a card game I've heard mentioned on mumsnet that's meant to be good but I've looked and you can't get it here. Queens or something... I'll look it up.

As a mum in NZ, it's really hard to find good quality clothing in NZ for girls aged 6-9. Either it's very cheap quality / fall apart, or has tacky slogans.

So you could do her mum a favour and send some lovely Boden or NEXT or whatever?

What about a nice pair of togs swimsuit?

One final idea, the kids in my area seem to love Onesies i.e. those animal or character shaped zip up things. They're all the rage (have been for ages).

Oh yes, my dmum is stocking up on clothes for the dc for when she comes out, although we're happy with Sainsburys stuff as it's still much better

I have had some nice clothes from Kmart here that lasts well, but most of the stuff dd likes stops at 7 and she is a tall 8 year old.

Thanks folks - as some of you may have guessed from my username, I'm a NZ'er but have lived here for eons and have never had to worry about toy buying in NZ as my kids were born in the UK!

I have got some lovely clothes in the summer sales so that's been ticked off (and is more a gift for the mum than the girl herself!) so now looking for toys.

Djeco do a range of kraft and colouring stuff that is very flat and easily postable. Sold on Amazon ... fabulous stuff for all ages
