I ADORE Christmas pud but the kids and DH can't stand it. What alternatives do you do? I need ideas!

Nigel Slater's lemon surprise pudding:

Very light, sweet but ultra tangy - wakes up the tastebuds agin after a roast dinner! Serve with pouring cream.

Possibly some interesting ice-cream or sorbet?

I like the Christmas pudding the next morning, fried in butter with a dribble of brandy over..... for brunch is wonderful.

Here's a quite blurry pic of the sticky toffee pud I do. Couldn't find it on the website to link as I've had it for 8 years now.

Do you take the skin off the dates? I'm never sure if they would give a gritty texture if left on.

I've made a Nigel Slater recipe called Christmas Crumble which was basically an apple crumble with some mincemeat (from a jar but homemade is better) and a couple of sliced bananas added to the apples, and with chopped almonds added to the crumble topping. I was very dubious about the bananas but they actually worked very well. Served with real custard and or icecream/clotted cream or all three..... It's surprisingly Christmassy.
Also made Spotted Dick one year at DS's request, again with proper custard. Goes down very well with dessert wine.
Delia has an apple and mincemeat strudel recipe which is a lot easier to make than you'd think, is delicious and looks very impresive.

Oh Twatbadging, your boozy black forest yule log might tempt me back to yule loggery again.

Quack duck, I'm super lazy so no I don't skin dates. It wouldn't have occured to me tbh but I guess you could if the fancy took you. Ivenever noticed grittiness though.

Thanks Kenny, I'm lazy too and would much prefer not to be skinning dates. I'll have a go with your recipe ASAP.
