For some reason I'm fixated on what to have instead of Christmas Pud...

I ADORE Christmas pud but the kids and DH can't stand it. What alternatives do you do? I need ideas!

When I was a child we had a 99p Vienetta as Christmas day pudding Grin

Now I'd prefer a sticky ginger sponge with custard.

I always make trifle.

One sherry just like MIL used to make (boozy!)
One chocolate orange one (orange jelly with mandarin segments, jaffa cakes for the sponge soaked in Cointreau, home made chocolate custard, whipped cream.)

My Dad has his sad little microwave xmas pud before diving into the trifle with the rest of us.

I love pannetone bread and butter pudding. But perhaps not a good alternative if people don't like dried fruit.

Zabaglione or syllabub
Posh fresh fruit salad and proper trifle
Pavlova or ice cream bombe
Virtually anything other than Christmas pudding because I hate it!

randomer I think you need to 'unsubscribe' from the Christmas topic. It's only going to get worse! Wink

I thought Choc Log was the only legal alternative to xmas pud?

Xmas cake or gingerbread house
Xmas pud or Yule log.

I think thems was the rules Confused

I do home made mince pies as I hate Christmas pudding. I need to look at a Christmassy cheesecake I think though!

Randomer, did you stray into the Christmas section by accident? We only talk about Christmas in here!

Black forest style yule log. Choc sponge, whipped vanilla cream, cherry jam and boozy soaked cherry halves dotted withing the roll.

a good drizzle of white chocolate on top then dusted with icing sugar to look like snow and more boozy cherries on top.

Failing that Chocolate bombs go down well here too with mincemeat ice cream. its really not as icky as it sounds! just a lovely rich vanilla ice cream mixed up with a spoonful or two of mincemeat.

We have warm mince pies with clotted cream

The kids always have boring old chocolate melt in the middle thingy with custard - I'm looking for alternatives for them this year

That Terry's chocolate orange cake looks amazing

What a thing of beauty Rufus - what's on the inside, do you know?
Although I'd be more than happy with just a mountain of maltesers if I'm honest

One year I did orange slices soaked in orange liqueur sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, served with thick cream and holly leaf shaped shortbread biscuits.
So very pretty served in glass dishes, and all done ahead of time of course.

If you do do Xmas pud, the Nigella frozen sauce is an amazing accompaniment - transformed my pud-hating-fil into a Christmas pudding convert...

mumitravels we always had vienetta as a special treat once a year at Christmas Grin I'm not actually sure if they sell it where I live now...

Pavlova is the rule here, im not sure you're allowed to livi in kiwiland if you don't have one Wink It is a great way to make use of the amazing in season berries then! I have to remember my British roots too though and like to make a Yule log and mince pies too. It's too hot to eat masses though.

Dc want to make a gingerbread house too, we had a go when it was winter school hols here and made a snowy one, maybe I should try a summer themed one?

We have mince pie ice cream (prefer it to Xmas pudding ice cream)
Mince pies with custard
Or individual steamed puddings, Xmas pudding for those that like it, syrup/chocolate/ginger/sticky toffee/lemon sponge for those that don't

no bugger here likes Christmas pud either - heathens! For the last couple of years we've had a vienetta which I think is pretty rank but I also do a sticky toffee tray bake with toffee sauce to have with it as well.
I often make it ahead then freeze. Even the sauce can be made ahead. Genius I think!
I'm hungry for Christmas food now!

Oh god. Viennetta. I gave to buy one for DH at Christmas otherwise he sulks. Ignore the fact that there is generally enough puddingy stuff in the house to sustain the entire town we still need a bloody Viennetta.

I don't think anybody is actually worried about this randomer.
Speaking for myself I like to think about anything new I might make well ahead of time so I can have a few trial runs.
I usually cater for 20 odd people between Christmas Day and Boxing Day and being prepared is key to it all going smoothly.
