Toys for a 2-3 year old boy

Our little boy will be 22 months at Christmas. What toys could I look at getting him that will last him through the year? He's our first so it's hard to know what he'll be into and able to do developmentally in 6 months time! He has a few Happyland this and some toot toot animals already. They seem quite popular! I'd love any more ideas to help. Smile

This thread is a bit old now, but if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we've recently updated our guide to the best toys for 3-year-olds featuring toys tried and tested by Mumsnet parents.

We hope you find this useful.

My daughter has just turned 2 and she loves her Peppa small world toys, duplo and wooden train set (brio etc). She also loves her play kitchen and enjoys cooking and serving food from it.

My son will be 2.5 years at Christmas and he's getting a play kitchen. Have you considered a balance bike? We got him one around 22 months and he grew into it through the summer and loves it!

My ds loves happy land house and peppa pig figures, 'toot toot trains and car tracks, jigsaws and scooter. Also for outside the sandpit. Every thing else has been a waste of money! I'm just sticking to these categories this year!

Ride on tractor, balance bike, box of hats, dinosaurs, lawn mower and gardening tools, books, tractors, smart mags plus set to make them vehicles, fireman Sam toys, farm animals. Think they were the hits from last Christmas.

DS is a similar age and loves cars, train set, kitchen with food, books, puzzles.

My DS has just turned two, I also have a 5yr old Ds.

For his birthday he got:
Mini micro scoot deluxe
Six foot trampoline (from grandma)
Imgainext Dinosaurs
Paints
Bing toys
Lots of books
Puzzles and orchard games (these are fab!)
Wooden blocks
A Noah's ark
Sticker books

We already have that are well played with:
Mountains of happy land
Brio train set
A ton of duplo
Toy cars and diggers
Play doh
Trike
Sandpit
Coupe car
Play kitchen and accessories (big hit!)
Dinosaurs + playmat
Action figures

Pop up tent and tunnel
Musical instruments

Fireman Sam stuff is never played with and poor quality in my opinion.

Train set pieces - engine shed, turntable etc. Playmobil 123. Mega doodle. Craft things and PVA glue.

Has he got the Happyland train set? That was very popular here.

Other than that things like a play tent that can go in the garden on sunny days or in the house on rainy days.

New wellies.

Play food.

Toy kitchen

Balance bike.

Duplo.

Scuttle bug.

Something for the garden. a small slide, sandpit, mud kitchen.

A small football.
