Speak to me of pre-lit trees

I think I may give up on real trees this year - they no longer seem to fill the house with the wonderful pine smell I remember from my childhood, and without that they just seem like an expensive way to make a mess. Added to that, our various sets of fairy lights have all given up the ghost, so a pre-lit fake seems the way to go.

They're quite expensive though, so I wondering if the lights last beyond a year or two, and are they replaceable/repairable if they do fail?

i have had a pre-lit tree i bought from amazon for 6 years now. it has soft white led lights and none have failed so far. its a bit of a ballache to put up, but no more than stringing lights round a regular tree. it looks lovely when its all done, i reckon i will probably get another couple of years out of it before it gets too sparse. cost me about £90 i think, for a 7 foot tree with about 400 lights on.

I bought a prelit tree 8 years ago. It's still going strong, a few bulbs have blown here and there, but it hasn't stopped working. They can be replaced, I just haven't bothered. It's the way to go imo, no faff with lights tangling or getting an even spread.

I'm looking for a new one this year because we have a bigger space, but I'm definitely going for a prelit!

I love our prelit tree, it was from B & Q. This will be it's 7th Christmas. One year when my dd was a newborn I didn't even put any decorations on and it still looked great.

I got mine in Homebase, was £119 prelit with a remote to change light sequence AND can change from soft white lights to coloured!
Is 7ft and a pain to set up, (straightening out all the branches) but looks amazing when done.

We have a prelit tree from B&Q. Must be it's 8th year this year? Or even 9th. Was about £60 full price but we bought it in the sale for half that. It is fabulous.

It makes dressing the tree sooo much more fun, when you don't have to pfaff with the lights.

I buy some boughs of greenery for a decorate on a table, so that you still get the smell of pine.

I'm on the lookout this year for a dark green (no white/black or frosted tree here) with the lights set onto the branches tips not the ugly wires that our present one has.

The secret to getting the best value on Christmas trees is to buy in the January sales. Our current tree is on its last legs. It's 8/9 years old and cost me £1 in the January sales (reduced from around £60) I think it was from B&Q. It's one of those strange trees you can have either upside down or the right way up (remember the ludicrous strange upside down tree trend that was out a few years ago?)

It will be brought out for this Christmas and I will be buying a new shiney pre lit tree in it the January sales for next year. Hopefully for at least half price. I just couldn't justify spending a small fortune on a tree at this time of year. -skinflint emoticon-

Just watch out for how bright the lights are. We have a pre-lit tree but do not turn the lights on as they are too harsh. We then put normal softer lights on it. It didn't even occur to us to check the lights first!
