New York for Christmas - am I being ridiculous?

And I could only go for a few days so it wouldn't be worth it, would it?

It won't snow but it will be very cold. With q very bitter wind. Can't beat it though.

Always snows around end Jan/Feb time. It's on my bucket list to spend one Christmas there. Always go over thanksgiving. Love the place.

I would love to do this, but I very much doubt I will ever be able to afford it! If it's an option for you and you want to do it, do it! But take warm footwear, I remember reading something about being a tourist in New York in the winter and having ice blocks for feet.

I'm going for a week in December, can't wait! Definitely expectations set by films but I think it will feel so Christmassy anyway it will be amazing regardless. I'd actually prefer it not to snow so we can walk for hours and explore.

I've been over Christmas. It did snow. And it was very HomeAlone-y.

Also, I've been recommended a proper winter sports coat (rather than a high street coat) and snow boots. My friend went in Feb this year and it reached - 20 and the cold was painful.

I spent Christmas there 8 years ago and there was snow on the ground. We fulfilled our 80's childhood dreams by jumping around on the piano and skating at the Rockefeller centre. We also went to Bloomingdales and Macy's to buy tree decorations, went to see White Christmas on Broadway and did other none Christmas things. It was great!

Have done Millennium Eve, and another year until 23 Dec. Can't beat it. Also did the piano and Rockefeller, Bloomingdales etc. DDs loved it too.

We went for my 40th in November a few years ago. It snowed then.

Oh, I was imagining doing this. DD2 is desperate to see Hamilton. I know it's coming to London next year, but how fabulous if she could see it there, first!

I was there for new year in 2005 and there was snow on the ground.

It snowed in early December 2003! If you go you must get tickets for the Radio City Christmas show, it will knock your socks off!

We went for New Year once and there was so much snow! Mind you - they clear it all away, so the only place we saw it was Central Park!

It was absolutely magical nonetheless.

It's just always seemed so magical and a tick on the bucket list. Christmas in New York sigh I would be going just on me sen, if that makes any difference loner looking for something to do over Christmas

I was there last year. It was t-shirt weather...I've never known anything like it. 3 days after Christmas it snowed and we missed it driving back down to Florida

Go, go, go! Life is too short. If I was on my own and could afford it I'd do it without hesitation. Make sure you come back and tell us all about it!

We went for new years there was no snow on the ground but we were wondering around time square when it started to snow. We flagged down a cab (very New York thing to do) went to Central Park and took a horise and carriage ride through Central Park in the snow with the driver pointing out all the famous bits from different movies. That single event still remains one of the best bits of any holiday I've ever had. If you can afford it then go.

I've told my (adult) children that if they're in a relationship and want to spend Christmas with their partners then it's okay, I'll go to NY for Christmas. They looked at me as though I'd killed a puppy.

We were there for Thanks Giving years ago on our last holiday before our first dc was born. It was magical, with all the holiday lights and displays.It started snowing whilst we were outside at the top of the Empire State Building at bout 10 in the evening, it's still one of my most romantic memories.
If you can afford it, then go for it, but I would suggest longer than 3 days, there is so much to do.I would so love to go to New York (or anywhere in America) for Christmas.

we have done 3 xmases in new york - never snowed once but weather varied from bone snapping cold to lovely blue sky sunny winter days .. 3 days is the minimum you need but still enough for a wonderful time - we just love Xmas there - totally brilliant over the top place to be for Xmas - do it! we are going back again this year!

We are going for a full week. So much to do but also I want to sit in a coffee shop window and watch people and feel Christmassy. I can't wait now!
