I love candles and my favourite smells are the spicy Christmas ones, I usually burn Mandarin cinnamon and cloves candles from m&s or lady year Space NK did a similar one which was also lovely.

What's your favourite Christmas 'smell'

I love making pomanders in early December and the smell of orange and cloves is Christmas for me.

IfartInYourGeneralDirection · 05/09/2016 10:15

Well it will lower the tone but....
Greggs festive bake is the ultimate Christmas smell

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 05/09/2016 10:17

Orange and cloves for me too, takes me back to childhood when I first made pomanders, also cinnamon. We always have a real tree too, which smells gorgeous.

OrsonWellsHat · 05/09/2016 10:18

Cinnamon, I get cinamon sticks to hang on the tree, smells devine.

Piscivorus · 05/09/2016 10:19

I hate the cinnamon and clove type smells but love the ones like M&S frankincense and myrrh or Wax Lyrical Golden Sandalwood. Crabtree and Evelyn use to do a lovely one called Noel but I'm not sure if they still do it

App1esandOranges · 05/09/2016 10:22

Last year I got my hands on a small Jo Malone roasted chestnut candle it smells so good but full size candle is about £200!! Rude. Will have to recreate it somehow

The sweet dusty smell of the stored-for-a-year Christmas decorations as I deliberately sniff them as I'm putting them up.

Me baking my savoury sausage rolls.

First chilled sip of Bacardi and coke.

The smell of the chicken and the bacon rolls cooking.

NotAPuffin · 05/09/2016 11:26

Tinsel. We don't have it but the smell takes me right back to my childhood. Also that pine-scented spray-on snow; my parents used to spray it on the crib.

I have some orange and cinnamon scented pot pourri that we bought from Next for our first christmas in our house. It has come out every year now for 13 years and still smells the same. It will be scenting our first christmas in our new house this year.

Boiling ham with clementines, bay, mace, onions and cloves is a huge christmas thing for me; also bread sauce (it's the bay and mace combo again). Also fruit soaking for the cake, in brandy, spices and orange and lemon zest.

roseteapot101 · 05/09/2016 11:31

i love baking the whole house smells so dam good

TheOnlyPink · 05/09/2016 11:36

Sparkling cinnamon from Yankee was my favourite. Treated myself to a large jar instead of the tarts last year, there was almost no fragrance, just the smell of wax. So got a tart from kringle, gingerbread snow Angel or something like that, and it was Christmas!
Love mulled wine smell too!

Wayfarersonbaby · 05/09/2016 13:15

My favourite christmas smell is a scented candle called Inspiritus, I don't know what the brand is called but they are stocked in a shop near me and it smells amazing, like church candles, orange and cinnamon!

Havingkittens04 · 05/09/2016 14:11

Cinnamon
Gingerbread
Spiced apple

Schloer to me smells like Christmas in a glass Xmas Grin

Ceaser1981 · 05/09/2016 15:36

Yankee christmas eve and glade glistening snow candles. I also love my christmas shower gel from bath and body works Noel which smells like hot fudge!

OSETmum · 05/09/2016 16:18

I know what it is but I've never been able to find it in a candle, I think it's the combination of several Christmassy scents that you can smell all together in a shop! I hate cinnamon though so it's not that.

MyPatronusIsABadger · 05/09/2016 18:14

I love Yankee candles and foodie sweet smells, so adore Christmas cookie, Christmas sugar cookie and Christmas Eve. I love apple and spiced scents too and have the sweet smells in the front room, and the spicy ones for the kitchen.
Everyone raves about the White company but I think those candles are too classy for me because I love an 'overwhelming' smell!
I love tinsel too and would stick my face into it when it was delivered to the shop I used to work in!

MollHackabout · 05/09/2016 18:46

I find cinammon a little sickly, but I love clove. I've been burning a Yankee spiced orange and clove candle every evening for the past couple of weeks - it's helped ratchet up the excitement for the weeks to come! I'll buy another closer to Christmas and have it burning throughout December.

For me though the ultimate festive fragrance is the slightly dusty, warm smell of decorations that have been stored all year. It's ven more evocative than the smell of a real tree to me - when I was a child in the 70s we never had a real one, but had the same tinsel tree which we brought down from the attic every 1st December. The tree, the tinsel, the baubles, the lights... They all smelled the same. And they still do. No other smell is more redolent of childhood Christmases - every year it makes me catch my breath for the overwhelming, bittersweet nostalgia.

And the combined aroma of champagne and roasting turkey is Christmas morning in a nutshell!

Palomb · 05/09/2016 18:54

Sainsburys red Christmas candle. They used to do an oil but it wasn't in any of the shops last year :(

orenisthenewblack · 05/09/2016 19:12

This isn't what you're asking really, but, the smell of Bounce tumble dryer sheets is the smell of Christmas for me Smile

App1esandOranges · 05/09/2016 19:21

Is it this one Way?

Yankee Sparkling Cinnamon (mix of cinnamon, clove and a bit of orange)

Cake - the smell of Christmas cake and mince pies, gingerbread,

I always buy L'Occitane Cinnamon&Orange soap for the loo/bathroom

I don't like pine so many of the Forest/Tree/Christmas eve candles are not to my taste but even the smell of a normal, good quality candle is lovely and atmospheric.

Wayfarersonbaby · 05/09/2016 21:38

Yes, that's the exact one app1es! Grin I didn't know they had a website!

I normally get the ones in the tin, they last for ages and ages. Gorgeous smell, I really recommend it. It has a sort of beeswaxy churchy note to it, not too sweet but very Christmassy.

App1esandOranges · 05/09/2016 22:20

Ordered the Inspiritus, thanks Way! I see M&S have their Christmas candles in now.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 'Christmas' tab on websites now.

St Eval orange & cinnamon and figgy pudding candles. I bought some last year and they were divine.

I love the smell of a pine tree. We have a fake one these days, can't be doing with bloody pine needles but the smell of a real tree is lovely.

Oh and mulled wine, obviously.
