love the name change mummy! Imagining you as some sort of Christmas Faun now!

Mummyreindeerlegz · 25/11/2016 16:50

Yes, they are hairy and my feet are hoven cloofs. I'll be pulling a sleigh by Christmas if my gym workouts continue Xmas Grin

Guitargirl · 25/11/2016 19:13

I have been to the Ideal Home Christmas show at Olympia with my Mum today so feeling quite festive but dare I say it on here - am just not feeling it yet.

November seems to have disappeared in a bit of a blur and all the shops are getting Christmassy and I feel like am playing catch up a bit.

We had a family bereavement in October, with a funeral in November. I am having ongoing tooth problems so am taking hardcore antibiotics and painkillers which means I can't drink and Christmas this year just seems to be adding to my usual amount of stress rather than a distraction from it.

Anyway, am going to shut up moaning now before I turn the festive thread all dark. I can drink again from Monday so am planning on pickling myself in Baileys which might help a bit Xmas Grin.

Last Rudolph Day of the year Xmas Grin

I've been shopping, tidying, working .

I put my dried fruit in to soak in Amarretto today. .....Xmas Smile

winterisnigh · 25/11/2016 22:06

I was astonished to learn that older DD no longer does a nativity play, cant believe it she is only 9, what about the white witch etc.

Thankfully have younger in nursery, wasn't sure if they did anything and spent enchanted half hour in the car, while DD who has slight speech delay, sang the Christmas songs they have been learning - truly heartwarming blissful moment. Not obvious songs but stuff about kings and stars coming out.

Homebase usually had great Christmas section, this year its all in boxes with stuff plonked on top, very disappointing.

70 I adore amaretto.

ConstantlyCooking · 26/11/2016 03:33

70-
I am planning a Christmas cake with amaretto instead of brandy after seeing a thread last year. I love almonds and marzipan so i am looking forward to it! Hopefully making the cake today (it is simmer and stir so no soaking).

Mummyreindeerlegz · 26/11/2016 07:35

Winter - I went to Homebase and was utterly shocked too! I have always thought they have done quite a nice Christmas section but as you say. Plonked on bkxes and no effort. I overheard lots of other people saying the same. They are leaving nectar so I have a feeling they are in trouble financially and may not be open next year.

Off to the Cotswolds for an annual Christmas shopping trip today. This involves visiting the most wonderful toy shop in moreton. And hot chocolate.

HairsprayBabe · 27/11/2016 08:11

Ooh I don't have a homebase near me to check it out.
I havr to say with the exception of John Lewis all the Christmas sections of the shops have been a bit meh this year for me, cheap looking decs, weird incohearant schemes, only bought a few new things this year as a result!

HungryHorace · 27/11/2016 08:19

I've bought decorations from John Lewis, Debenhams and Next this year. I've gone for red and white / silver for my colours (which will be for the foreseeable future, not just this year).

I also got a few decorations from Iceland as they have a Christmas shop there which is ace!

HairsprayBabe · 27/11/2016 08:23

I bought aome from JL one or two from The Range and a couple from TKMaxx.
Just adding to the bazzioins i already have though! Brown gold and burgandy downstairs with a woodland/nature theme and red and white upstairs with a candycane/scandi feel.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/11/2016 10:18

I keep meaning to look in The Range but their Christmas shop is upstairs and I usually go there to buy 4-5 bales of their hay/straw for my guinea-pigs so I miss the top floor with the trolley being full of grass products Xmas Grin

Bought myself the QVC L'Occitane offer today.

Ticks off list :- present for 70 because she's an angel: Done

winterisnigh · 27/11/2016 11:42

hair I agree, I was disappointed by JL, homebase, ikea, The Range is glorious but quite samey stuff to last year. Home sense has been my stand out but even then I was only inspired to buy a few items.

There is a Christmas barn we visit every year in a place called.....Christmas Common, tis gorgeous, they do amazing display of trees with decs I am hoping they can pull through this year with wonderful inspiring displays. Dh of course will be hoping it wont Smile

Guitargirl · 27/11/2016 15:15

I have just got home from a Japanese Christmas fair which was a bit surreal. About 90% of people dressed up as different anime/manga characters and me shuffling about in my M&S Christmas jumper Xmas Blush.

I did manage to get DD a few plushies which I think she'll be happy with and some kawaii stationery. And then I legged it as all those pastel shades were starting to give me a headache.

winterisnigh · 27/11/2016 16:51

Guitar I love the sound of that!

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/11/2016 17:24

I've had a lovely weekend with my SILs and a visit to the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate. Just about to head home with my purchases - lovely Shetland lace wool and a really funky Dr. Who key ring to go in DD1's stocking.

Guitargirl · 27/11/2016 17:31

winter - it was fun and definitely different from the Christmas fairs I usually go to. Apparently they do a summer version too which I might take DD along to so she can witness it as well!

BiddyPop · 28/11/2016 09:54

I managed, despite the chaos that is my current existence, to get to the local craft fair yesterday with DD. This year, we came out with 1 gift each - there was a lot of tat where it has been good in the past. But that is 1 more for me.

DD was on a roll though. I sent her to "shop at home" from a bag of things that I had for various reasons that I wouldn't give (regifting, mostly too small and cheap for the people involved, some too young for the people left on my list etc) and she found things she liked for most of her DCousins. (And all suitable, in fairness to her, as gifts from her). She managed to get 1 more at the craft fair, and 2 more in another shop. She'd already bought something for another cousin a few weeks ago. So now she's down to just 3 DGPs.

Life is manic - but vaguely manageable. I will get through it all.

DD did go sailing despite the wind being higher than forecast yesterday. She did really well, as lots of boats were going over, and she kept hers upright until the very last corner (4 legs per lap, and she had to do 3 laps) - when she "dry capsized" (sail went in the water but she got it up again while staying dry herself) and then went over again as she had finished and was turning to head for the dock (a "wet capsize" - she went for a swim!). But she came home grinning still - that it was a proper sailing day, she'd worked hard and managed it, and that I'd seen her capsizing was a bonus.

DH was away again, and the guy fitting the doors had to come back Friday to finish them, and again on Saturday to finally finish them!! He left after 7 on Friday, and DH left about 20 minutes later. It was 7.30 on Saturday night, and I had mess everywhere and trying to cook DD's dinner - I was raging at that stage! But they are now hung. And no more workmen (apart from a gas boiler service if we can organize it) until after Christmas. And I was in no mood to see anyone in the house Friday as we'd had our senior management conference all day (with a weird poetry reading as our "wellness" session!), and then had to go see a new afterschool club for DD.

My cough is still there, and I am having sleepless nights because of that, on top of juggling balls in my head to keep everything going, and the start of night sweats. DH forgot to change the alarm last night, from 4am to 5.30am!! I could have cried as I was only just asleep after he'd woken me earlier to turn on the radio - I need a full 9 hours at least tonight. Then maybe I will feel more human if not a tiny bit festive.

Mummyreindeerlegz · 28/11/2016 10:04

26 feel better biddy! I hate being woken when I've just got off. I had a night like that on Friday night.

Dh asked me to do an Amazon wish list. It's got headphones for the gym and an apple corer on it. I'm so dull!!

MrsDilligaf · 28/11/2016 19:08

Biddy I feel your pain....I hate not having enough sleep - I'm definitely an 8 hours a night woman. Anything less and I'm am a snappy old boot.

70 I was sooo tempted by the QVC offer but as I have one from last year which I'm yet to open I couldn't justify it (although my finger hovered over the order button for quite some time) which one did you go for?

I've got nothing on my list this year apart from a pilates DVD and a bullet journal...I'm struggling for ideas, but I'd be more than happy with those.

HungryHorace · 28/11/2016 19:20

I used to enjoy 8+ hours' sleep a night. Then I had kids. 6.5 is about standard these days; working about an hour from home doesn't help as I have to get up bloody early to avoid the traffic. 💤💤💤

I find if I do get 8 hours these days I can't sleep the night after. Can't win!

winterisnigh · 28/11/2016 19:57

mummy its a shame isnt it - and not really inspiring to buy anything. I only use sainsbo occasionally and only use nectar for my yearly tree at homebase. I have £20 to put towards it which makes a small dent.

I like HB my local one has always been excellent with very good customer service I will be sorry if it goes.
Thanks Guitar my DD would love summer one too - she likes the Manga things etc.

biddy sleep deprivation is torture.

I started wrapping today and was very dissapointed that my lovely FC paper from last years m and s sale, had M and S all across the inside of the paper Angry so now I cant use it, Fine so used it as paper from us.
( we do a few token gifts in case the big man cant make it) so I then got luxury paper from TK Max, bloody £7 for four rolls, but the paper is thin, short and crap. Thankfully I had some old rolls of Ikea paper in the attic and shall be sticking to Ikea in future. Its strong, long and fun patterns and dc wont see it in the shops!

I was hoping to enjoy my wrapping session but didn't as DH worked from home and I had to be ultra quiet. But I am thrilled its all done. Shopping all done and I determined not to twitch this year.

winterisnigh · 28/11/2016 19:58

Off to the Cotswolds for an annual Christmas shopping trip today. This involves visiting the most wonderful toy shop in moreton. And hot chocolate.

^^ LOVE the Cotswolds but at this time of year - bliss. I think I know which toy shop you mean too. Envy

HungryHorace · 28/11/2016 20:34

Ooh. We did the tree today.

It wasn't fun...a tired 2 year old and grumpy 3 year old (who was later proved to have a slightly dodgy tummy 💩 💩which didn't assist her mood!) made the experience rather testing! 🎄🎄🎄

HungryHorace · 28/11/2016 20:36

Here is the tree!

Countdown to 2016 - A whole extra day to wait...thread 2!
Guitargirl · 28/11/2016 21:01

Cute tree Hungry!

We will be putting ours up this weekend I think.

I am hoping Amazon deliveries come tomorrow with the contents of DD's very specific Advent calendar request. I did try and talk her into a Lego one but no...
