MrsD, how scary. Hope you are ok today.

I'd LOVE to do Xmas in NY, Handbag. It looks idyllic, doesn't it!

Been busy here just buying Xmas stuff and sorting DS's birthday gifts and party stuff too. I'll feel in full Xmas swing once he's had his birthday. We are also moving house, so that takes up a bit of time!

MrsDilligaf · 27/09/2016 18:47

Popped into The Works today. Got 3 Christmas books for £5.00 including "The night before Christmas". I know that Martha can't read (she's clever, but not that clever Grin) but I want to start traditions with her and she loves books. I know she will be more interested in chewing them but I love Christmas books and hopefully she will too.

Guitar I think I have delayed shock so a baileys might be on the cards tonight Xmas Grin

We've got a beautiful paper cut pop up book of the night before Christmas. I might let wilf and Gabriel near it this year. Might. Xmas Grin

ConstantlyCooking · 27/09/2016 20:29

We read The Night Before Christmas with the DC every Christmas Eve. They are now 17 and 20 Xmas Grin

My plan is to collect christmassy books so that we can read 1 a night in the run up to Christmas.

I have a teeny tiny copy of TNBC but I would like a really beautiful copy so if any of you see one would you let me know?

The Night Before Christmas (Pop-up book) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/068983683X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Po36xbGKB55GG This is my one. I'll take some photos later

Jemmabee85 · 28/09/2016 13:30

Has anyone seen those elf toys, they look great to have around the house to encourage good behaviour. Think they will work a treat!!!

HairsprayBabe · 28/09/2016 14:30

We are still trying to decide where we are going for xmas day, I want my mums, DP wants his. His is much more boring quieter than my parents and it just doesn't feel like christmas to me! plus they only have one set of presents

Mummyshortlegz · 28/09/2016 14:42

We worked it out early on, we do my dad one day, at home for Christmas Day and accept callers in the morning (his mum and sisters usually) and then my mum another day. It means we don't have to do alternates. We get Christmas spread out and it's lovely.

HairsprayBabe · 28/09/2016 15:38

I think the problem is we dont have a car and obviously there is no public transport so we are stuck in wherever we choose for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
DP parents live a 15 min walk and mine a 25 min drive away so neither are far and if we had a car it would make it sooooo much easier!

I also need to go to church on Christmas Day and DP's family don't go and aren't the same faith anyway, so it wouldn't be the right church any way.

Blueisthemagicnumber · 28/09/2016 16:13

Can they come to you instead? We used to go to various relatives, but the dcs wanted to stay at home and play with their presents, rather than travel about. Made for. Much more relaxing.

HairsprayBabe · 28/09/2016 18:43

No ours is way too small, we don't have small people yet so I can't suggest them as a reason!

I think its because christmas was so good for me at home and i am stubborn and dont want to change it!!

I don't miss those days, MrsD! I hope you're recovering from your accident.

It's speeding along now, isn't it?!

We decided that we are just going to have awesome buffet food on the go all day (from lunch) on Christmas Day. We will have (posh) bacon sandwiches for breakfast.

We might do the traditional roast the day after, but we aren't having anyone to dinner, so we don't feel pressured into doing anything too exciting!

I'm really hoping for the M&S and Booths online food ordering to go live next week. That will really get me in the mood! Xmas Grin

MrsDilligaf · 29/09/2016 07:08

I am on tenterhooks waiting for the Booths Book to arrive. Any time now it should land through the door.

Mummyshortlegz · 29/09/2016 07:29

Mine are 3 and 12 months so I'm very gratefully over the night waking.

I'm going to go into town next week to buy stocking fillers. That's exciting.

HungryHorace · 29/09/2016 09:00

Mine are 3 and 2 and my 2 year old has just (this week!) started sleeping through!

Mummyshortlegz · 29/09/2016 09:06

I won't tell you when my two started sleeping through as you will strangle me with tinsel and throw baubles at my head.

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/09/2016 11:34

Mine are 22, 17 and 9. With the older ones if they are actually in the house then they are either eating or sleeping. 9 yo DS is just at the age of trying to blend in with the sofa cushions so I don't notice he's there and send him up to bed.

I went to The Range this morning and had a wander round the Christmas section. There were some nice wooden advent calendars and a giant (possibly 5ft) singing Santa that would drive you batty. The poor shop assistant looked a bit wild eyed already Xmas Grin

BiddyPop · 29/09/2016 12:25

I'll empathise with you MrsD - DD is now 10, was still wide awake at 11pm when I got home the other night and regularly when we are going to bed (and we desperately want some time to decompress ourselves!), and is an extremely regular invader to us at 6-6.30 am!! Although we have finally lost the sleepwalking, and she now manages to go to the loo and back to bed by herself in the middle of the night without coming in to ask to be put back to bed.

But to offset that, DH is up at 4am at least once a week to get a red-eye flight to the UK, and that often wakes me for the rest of the night....

Guitargirl · 29/09/2016 12:35

I have just taken delivery of 2 Christmas toothbrushes which play Jingle Bells and flash lights for 2 minutes when you press the button. Turns out 2 minutes is quite a long time. I can see it getting bit wearing by the second week of December Xmas Grin.

Mummyshortlegz · 29/09/2016 12:59

Guitar have you got a link?

I've just been yk hobbycraft and bought some simple craft kits to do with ds1 the week before Christmas, a felt Christmas tree and some cellophane and twine to wrap homemade presents in.

Guitargirl · 29/09/2016 13:06

Here you go!

Jingle bells....jingle bells....

Vegangelist · 29/09/2016 14:25

I was up around then. MrsD, feeding DD but was browsing eBay and Amazon for random Xmas stuff! I stay up way way too late doing that, and I cannot blame the baby!
