Presents from FC and presents from parents

In your household what sort of presents are from FC and which ones are from you?

I grew up thinking everything was from Santa and my DH grew up with stocking from Santa and presents from parents.

We are thinking about what to do for our DD

We do stockings from Santa and the rest from Mum and Dad. Purely because they need to understand that bigger/more expensive gifts need to be worked for and might not be everything they wanted. That sounds tight, but for example DSD 12 wanted an iPhone 6, iPad Air, laptop and clothes. Given we have 5 to buy for, it just wasn't feasible (even if I was I'll be buggered if I spend £1500 on one kid!) so she understood that one of these things was on offer, not all. Whereas if they think it's all Santa they can come up with ridiculous lists and believe it will happen. Don't know if any of that made sense.

Stockings from Father Christmas - in different wrapping paper - small things and an orange in the toe and some chocolate coins. The rest from us - usually only put out presents from relative under the tree and put our gifts out Christmas night. We carry on with this even though eldest DD no longer believes and DD1 is suspicious. I think one of the nicest things is making your own traditions though- the last 3 years we've had Xmas dinner Xmas eve night which means I get to have a lovely lazy day on Xmas day and we go for a walk on the beach etc You get to decide what suits you.

We do everything bar one or two from Santa.

Theres plenty of time when they are older for it to come from us :)

The stocking is from FC, but tends to only have smaller things in (pens, sweets, hairbands etc) and so far DC is still too young to have asked for much.

One larger present is from FC too, one that DC has asked for.

Rest of the presents are from family. They've included things from her letter to FC but that's because we read it first and we know that FC only brings one present

Santa brings them and decides if they've been good enough to receive them but the kids have always been told we pay for them.

Stockings from Father Christmas, we write a list to Father Christmas of what they would like and he then passes on the request of their behaviour warrants it :-)

Magic postboxes that parents and relatives can only see and children can't. Everyone picks special things for people and sends them off in these postboxes. The elves then collect them, arrange wrapping and then Santa delivers them.
Or that's what I was always told and I loved it.

We always had stockings and something big from Santa, but always also a present under the tree from DPs (as well as any from other relatives clearly from them).

We do the same for DD.

I know of some households where every single thing is from FC!! I can't understand how that one works, as the DCs then don't have anything under the tree, only adults do!

Never did Father Christmas for 'real' - but he would pay a visit during Christmas Day (would be one of the children dressed up!! - their idea!), and was just as magical as 'believing' - but they are v imaginative children.

We thought was better to do that way for our family as then there would never be the point of realisation that he wasn't real.

Stocking gifts and 1 reasonable present from Santa (wrapped in special Santa paper), rest are from us.
Don't want Santa to get all the credit , it also keeps Christmas wish lists reasonable as they know the gifts come from mum and dad.
We have not always been able to afford everything that my children wanted for Christmas and we wanted them to appreciate that gifts did cost money and chose wisely when it came to writing their wish list.
I always wondered how parents who say everything comes from Santa explain the difference in the type / value of gifts that different children get from Santa. Also not having every gift coming from Santa does away with the anxiety that if they say they no longer believe in FC they might not get any Christmas presents.

Stockings from Santa who also brought the main presents to the house a bit later the busy boy. They were always from us/aunties/uncles/GP's. Boiled down to him being a glorified postman

We do stocking and one larger pressie (generally a joint present) from fc and the rest from who they're from.

Stocking from Santa, anything under the tree from family/friends.

Stocking stuff was small stuff mostly, Santa never brought any of the 'main' gifts.

It's going to get complicated soon as we still do stockings for each other which we want to continue (I started doing stockings for my parents when I was 15) but as of Christmas 2017 I will have a child and their stocking will obviously come from Santa... That will be fun, different paper and no duplicate gifts in other stockings should cover it right?

Charmingly - until about 3 or 4 they won't notice at all aside from excited for you that you got a stocking too. We all have a stocking. I'd be super pissed off without one!

Yes ive told my kids that we send the money and their lists to father christmas, and he gets what he can from them and some other things that he thinks they might like

Santa brings the stocking - main presents come from us the parents (no way FC gets the credit for bikes/I-pads/Tv's)
I have wondered that in families where everything comes from Santa, how the kids feel when seeing everyone else swapping presents.

Father Christmas brings everything. But it's all labelled as to who it's from. There are a few unlabelled presents for the DDs from the big man too but normally smaller things like a book or new craft stuff.

Stockings from Santa, presents are unwrapped and will include 15-20 things like fun bath stuff, socks, colour change pens, candy canes, a book, stampers, small board game or jigsaw puzzle etc.

One present from mum and dad each, a big thing like a bike or lego set. Wrapped and under the tree.Well, maybe not the bike. Occassionally if there is no big thing they want, two or three smaller things, maybe a board game and a doll type thing.

They also get presents from each other, aunts and uncles and grandparents and these will also be wrapped and under the tree unless we are seeing the present givers over Christmas. Also wrapped and under the tree are all the presents we are giving to cousins etc we are seeing over Christmas. presents go under the tree as soon as they are wrapped unless they are something obvious in shape!

Everything - stockings and presents are from Santa. Obviously not other relatives presents but everything in the house on Christmas morning comes from Santa. Same when I was younger, husband is the same etc. Tbh I don't know anyone in real life that buys their children separate presents as well as those from Santa. I've 3 kids, I think on different occasions one of them has mentioned the why don't we get presents from you? They usually get a raised eyebrow in response and they're wise enough to let it drop

I would have happily done all from FC, I dont get this - the child need to personally thank me stuff. Stuff from OTHER relatives is FROM THEM. From parents, FC, however.....my DD was rather sharp and noticed brands in shops, so now I am stuck navigating round certain things and do some small from us, but ALWAYS stocking and big gift from FC.

It only lasts a few years, the window between understanding and realizing is soooooo small....

Stockings are from Santa, as are the pile of presents that mysteriously appear downstairs overnight

Along with family gifts we put one or two presents under the tree from "mum & dad" and that is usually a main present they have asked for so one year it was bikes another year it was iPods. Santa presents are toys/games not bloody iPads!

Some really complicated messages on this thread for really small dc. There is a life time after all to get full credit isnt there.

Isnt it enough to see their little faces in the morning? Does there have to be a direct thank you as well, I dont get it.
Do you show them the bank statements too?
