Six months on- which toys are still being played with?

I really enjoyed reading the thread about the most appreciated and play with gifts just after Christmas and I wondered what everyone's DCs were still playing with and what has been forgotten about (almost) six months later.

DS was 2 a few weeks after Christmas and I tried to buy toys that he would grow into over the year. He still loves his play kitchen best and the way in which he plays with is developing as he does. He isn't playing with his Brio train set as much as I hoped but he is starting to show an interest and I'm sure he will be ready to add to it by Christmas.

Anyone else?

2 ds - 1 and 3 last year. They always play with:
IKEA wooden train set
Wooden pirate ship

Big hits:
Lego
Disney infinity 2.0
Frustration
Superhero dolls
Ticket to ride was played with lots but not been seen in a few months. I guess that's because dd would rather be locked in her room snap-chatting her mates then playing with mum and dad and the other dc's are too young for it

The biggest hit was most definatly the baby brother who appeared shortly after midnight on Boxing Day. He's still played with on a daily basis Wink

Our schleich horse stable is still played with daily, as are the horses with 3yo DD. But then so is her IKEA kitchen from the previous year.

Toot toots were a waste of money here, barely used!

The lego is still being played with.

I got him rachet and clank on the ps3 which is still a hit.

Youngest ds was only 1 last year so most stuff has been grown out of.

I stupidly got them a fibre optic minion lamp for their bedroom which has been in the bin for 3 months but I'm still finding them bloody strips everywhere!

GlitteryFluff · 11/08/2016 16:57

gin we have one of those and yes those bloody strips just appear everywhere
You walk out the room and see one glisten in the light, then you move and can't see it or find it again!

Yes!!! The hoover won't suck the buggers up either 😠😠

my daughter is almost 3 and the Ikea play kitchen she got for her first birthday is played with everyday (play food, pots and pans etc a big hit too). She has lots of Duplo and Playmobil, but is only just starting to play with these - she seems less keen on the Playmobil but I'm hoping she might get more into it as I've bought quite a lot!). She's also been playing with Happyland for a few months which I only buy half price as I think it's costly for what it is. The other big hit has been a sand and water table which she's had since she was one and gets more or less daily use in summer.

I got my 4 year old boy the imaginext castle and accessories about a year and a half ago now and he still plays with it almost daily.
They've changed it a bit now and I bought the new version for my nephew but it still looks good. I am so excited for this year and I am trying to pick up some good ideas from here Grin

I bought DS (6) a couple of remote contolled cars and a couple of other bits. He opened them but actually, by the time we got most presents home ( me and DS have Christmas Day at mums if I'm not working) he forgot about some of them so now they are back under the stairs for presents this year for other kids. It shows I actually bought too much for the sake of buying really. Some we leave at mums for him to play with with my niece.

He's into board games and he loves 'frustration' which is played with a lot. One game I bought which was the cheaper version of the brand broke not that long after. He and my niece like the orchard toys games so will be getting some of those this year.

Problem is, because he has my and his dad as house, it's difficult to choose who buys what so we are always debating every year on presents.

Dd1 (9) still plays with her bike and makeup sets. Nothing else, the worst thing I bought her was a password journal, she played with it twice then hasn't bothered since.

Dd2 (6) loves her iPad, barbies, sylvanian families and polly pockets. The biggest waste of money was the interactive baby born, she cried and cried for this for weeks so when Santa brought it was was happy. When we discovered it did fuck all it's didn't do what she thought it did it got flung in the toy box never to be seen again.

DS (14) still plays on his PlayStation games everyday ;)

It's interesting reading the differences in hits/misses

DD (7) rarely touches the lego and playmobil is largely ignored too! Big hits for her have been the bugs in the kitchen game, top trumps, books, pillow pet and shopkins figures. The other games she asked for, magic tooth fairy and shh don't wake dad have been played with probably twice since Xmas day.

DD (4) really loves character things current favourite paw patrol, the dogs have been played with daily - gave her the lookout and paw patroller for her birthday which have also proved popular. Most other gifts were ignored in favour of the pups!

Big hits for both are the busy books - cheap and are played with daily especially the paw patrol and ninja turtles one. Cuddly toys of favourite characters been well loved.

Can't actually remember what else I bought!!

Letmesleepalready · 01/09/2016 13:15

I can't even remember what we got the girls!
So many of the toys we got DD1 are being played with by DD2, so not a waste as such, think Barbies, unicorns...
The dolls house we bought years ago is being played by DD1 with the playmobil toys, and she loves all stickers and stamps. But we're not going to buy half the amount of things we bought last year! By the time all the rest of the family have given presents we had a bootful of stuff and nowhere to put it!
