Six months on- which toys are still being played with?

I really enjoyed reading the thread about the most appreciated and play with gifts just after Christmas and I wondered what everyone's DCs were still playing with and what has been forgotten about (almost) six months later.

DS was 2 a few weeks after Christmas and I tried to buy toys that he would grow into over the year. He still loves his play kitchen best and the way in which he plays with is developing as he does. He isn't playing with his Brio train set as much as I hoped but he is starting to show an interest and I'm sure he will be ready to add to it by Christmas.

Anyone else?

Trampoline!

Scarydinosaurs · 17/06/2016 22:23

My DD turned three in March and her dolls house is played with every day Smile

NotSayingImBatman · 17/06/2016 22:26

NeedA, DS1 is 4.5 and is riding his bike without stabilisers. Get her a Cnoc14 and take the pedals off until she gets the hang of it, there's no point dropping £150 on the balance bike to fork out another £250 on the cnoc six months later imho.

HippyPottyMouth · 17/06/2016 22:33

Happyland people and houses, Frozen figures and a plastic tomato plant. Oh, and a toy drill. Her tool set is bigger than mine. All the cars and trucks rarely see the light of day.

HippyPottyMouth · 17/06/2016 22:34

Oh, should have said she's 2.9.

NeedACleverNN · 17/06/2016 22:37

My point is though, isn't it easier to learn to ride a bike by balance first as opposed to learning to pedal with stabilisers a

Mycatsabastard · 17/06/2016 22:45

My youngest is 10. She has a Baby Annabel which was DD1's (who is now nearly 18) and it's still in use. Definitely worth the money (although bloody annoying when it won't stop crying).

DD also had mountains of lego, all the Lego Friends stuff. She's got her eye on the Fun fair stuff now (I'm weeping at the cost) so will split that between birthday and Christmas this year.

Although she has built the actual lego sets, she prefers to make her own little things out of the bricks and has made little cars, a roundabout (for the cars to drive round) and lots of houses and shops. It's all set up in the conversatory on the floor and we get shouted at for moving it.

Both my girls got a laptop last Christmas both of which are still used a lot and are very well looked after.

georgetteheyersbonnet · 17/06/2016 22:51

DD is 3, nearly 4, and out of last year's Christmas presents is still really enjoying:

  • Duplo
  • rag dolls
  • jigsaws
  • scooter
  • toy Dyson vacuum cleaner
  • easel and chalks/paints/crayons
  • play doh

She's also still very fond of some of her presents from the previous Christmas aged 2, especially:

  • wooden train track set (possibly the most-played-with item in our house - she's had it out nearly every day for two years!)
  • toy jogger buggy
  • soft toys, especially Abney and Teal
  • ikea play kitchen (played with a little less these days but still quite a stalwart).

Things from last Christmas she doesn't play with as much as I would have expected:

  • fisher price vintage-style record player
  • loud flashing motorcycle, bought by Grandma, which was flavour of the month at the time but now forgotten (thank goodness!)
  • outdoor wendy house
  • indoor dolls' house.

Ds was 2.4 at Christmas, he is quite a good player of toys. He will play with them quite a lot. His favourites from Christmas are his happyland, toy story dolls and his puzzles. Well worth the money.

The dino dentist game he played with for an hour at his cousin's house, has sat untouched since he decided he was scared of it after opening it at Christmas Hmm

Ellypoo · 17/06/2016 23:29

Dd3 - loves her Doc McStuffin dr bag and Thomas take & play stuff (which I've added to), duplo still being played with but not the Mr Potatohead I thought she'd like. Fancy dress stuff is still being well used as is the pretend play bits.

midnightlurker · 17/06/2016 23:33

Indoor sandpit and sand. Played with daily by two under fives.

ParadiseCity · 18/06/2016 01:36

PS4 and laptop (older kids here!!)

NotSayingImBatman · 18/06/2016 07:07

NeedA, just take the pedals off the cnoc and voila, it's a balance bike.

If you'd been asking last year id have recommended the balance bike, but she'll get so little use out of it you would just be wasting your money unless she's dyspraxic/you have some other reason to think she will struggle with balance.

VeryPunny · 18/06/2016 07:16

NeedACleverNN Our DD only had a balance bike and was riding a pedal bike with no stabilisers at just over 3 - it took all of two goes on the pedal bike to get going!

Mycraneisfixed · 18/06/2016 08:04

GinIsForWinners · 18/06/2016 08:25

For ds it is his toot toot cars and the happyland train set.
He'll be almost three this year, was going to get him some more but not sure if he'll be too old for them?

For dd it is her baby annabel and pram and really not much else other than her books.

I'm a bit gutted because I went overboard last Christmas and the stuff they play with most is the happyland stuff I bought them two years ago lol

DeltaSunrise · 18/06/2016 08:30

The Magformers are still out every single morning being played with. Still the best thing we ever bought.

Lego, of course

SideOrderofChip · 18/06/2016 08:33

dd1 is still into pretty much everything she got. Apart from her roller blades. turns out shes actually dyspraxic.....not the best gift ever then :O

dd2 is still in love with playmobil and my little ponies so plays with all that. her bike hasn't really been touched but thats more my fault as need to sort the garden!!

baby chips is now 9 months, into everything and chews everything with out distinction.

AdoraKiora · 18/06/2016 08:35

Lego for both.

DD's Heeleys were a great buy. She is rarely out of them at weekends, although she s bound to grow out of them soon.

The books they chucked aside to tear open some big box of plastic tat are just now being read Grin

SimplyNigella · 18/06/2016 09:04

I'm very guilty of going overboard so I will be coming back to this thread to remind myself that DS really doesn't need piles of presents, just a few that he will really enjoy.

Thanx for the advice on the bikes.

That's Dd's bike sorted for this year Grin

onehellofaride · 18/06/2016 09:27

need I wish we had got DD a balance bike or at least one we could take the pedals off. She's just turned 7 and still can't ride her bike without stabilisers as she is frightened when we take them off so would rather not ride her bike at all!
