why can't people let them off earlier FFS, it's dark round here at 5, why wait till now?

PITA big time

I'd like to let them off tomorrow at 6.30 when ds geta up, that would teach 'em!!!

You are lucky! Sometimes have them around 11pm. I have early starts at work too (up at 5) and sometimes feel like making loads of noise when I get up too.

I suppose I will let them off for last night. Another question - why let off new year fireworks before midnight? Think that is even more annoying, can't they wait til 12

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 01/01/2007 21:24

yes.
last night was 12pm, luckily kids sleeping.

We had to listen to so many fireworks last night. Ds was terrified

nearlythree · 01/01/2007 21:26

There's a real case for banning the things, IMO, or at least limiting the days and times when it is legal to let them off.

fizzbuzz · 01/01/2007 21:45

i thought there were laws in place now. Am too sick to death of them. Blame it all on the millennium, don't remember fireworks before that...

Gingeme · 01/01/2007 21:46

Yeah they woke my ds up last night about12 and it took about an hour to settle him backdown because he was so scared each time one went off. Hes the same around bonfire night. Bloody things

"It is an offence for anyone under 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
It is an offence to let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am, except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (1am). "

Bit odd to be letting them off on NYD rather than last night IMO. I see no harm in them last night even though they woke DH and me. My children have never been bothered by fireworks other than the one time DS watched Narnia (with initial bombing scenes prior to the children's evacuation) and then went to bed and heard bangs - it was October and he didn't realise we were heading towards Bonfire Night.

They were going off for ages here last night, the kids didn't wake up though. The pub across the road was really noisy, it sounded like they were hitting cans onto metal or something. Its only once a year so I don't mind. Plus I didn't have to get up for work so could have a lay in.

Gingeme · 01/01/2007 22:09

I think the main reason I hate them is because my bday is 6th November and they just remind me Im another year older. he he

nearlythree · 01/01/2007 22:18

We don't get them going off that often here, but there is a problem when they are let off unexpectedly as there are a lot of horses in the village and they get very spooked by them. And of course people with pets need to know when to keep their animals in.

paulaplumpbottom · 01/01/2007 22:31

Its not as bad here now as it was at Halloween. Had them going off till 4am last night though.

ledodgy · 01/01/2007 22:33

DD woke up last night with the fireworks at midnight too at least this is what I though t woke her up but she told me today it was me shouting drunkenly "THREE, TWO, ONE..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!" that did it.

paulaplumpbottom · 01/01/2007 22:36

lol

NOELallie · 02/01/2007 08:02

Round here most of them wait till midnight, and as we live in a area of terraced streets there are thousands of them all round us. It really is like a warzone. As far as I'm concerned fireworks belong early evening at the beginning of November.

When did fireworks start to be a big deal at New Year? In people's back gardens I mean - I don't seem to remember any 10 yrs ago.

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 02/01/2007 08:05

same here, there were loads going off and has been the last 3 nights.

WTF???
