Have had the lot of them here all Christmas after they invited themselves.
Grandmother just sat in a corner and said nothing all the time, but belched occasionally. Mother spent Christmas day reading the previous days newspapers and not speaking, and then stayed in bed most of boxing day. dh got fed up of the lot of them and took off to ride his bike alone in the dark in preference (and has gone off on his own again today leaving me to try to work, clear up after them all and look after ds at the same time).
Is it really too much to ask that after all the effort they at least try to enjoy it, and make the effort to at least hold a proper conversation?
On the upside my father did spend most of the time playing with ds, the inlaws were over for Christmas day (but I think found trying to get any sort of Christmas atmosphere going pretty hard work and excused theselves as soon as possible) and 5 year old ds was a star telling people off for bad manners if they didn't say thank you to the giver of their gifts!
Oh well it could be worse - at least they only stayed for 3 nights, not the 9 or 10 they originally suggested as none of them had to go back to work in between Christmas and New Year!
