And leave it somewhere cold not warm!

Throw your pets out lol so that they don't have a good chow done on Christmas lunch!

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 23/12/2006 12:44

But don't leave it in the garden in case the fox gets it

ah dh juts rung - Waitrose have already sold out of fresh turkeys , and Tesco and M and S apparently am I right in thinking a frozen one may not now thaw in time ?

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 23/12/2006 13:04

I think it would thaw in time. If necessary pop it in a sink of COLD water!

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 23/12/2006 15:24

bump , we don't want reports of salmonella on boxing day.
My 5.6kg bird says thaw for 36 hours in a cool room, or 24 hours in a bowl of cold water, changed frequently so plenty of time if you've jsut bought one.

oxocube · 23/12/2006 16:48

Ahhhhh I have just taken my ham out of the fridge to cook for tonight and it is frozen????? (The firdge is out in a shed)

Now panicing as may not be thawed in time for cooking for dinner tonight!!!

Have it bowl of cold water at mo. What else can I do???

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 24/12/2006 11:01

cece if you can spare the sink or have a bucket pop it in there with cold water. You'll need to change the water regularly. Nothing else that you can do. How big is your ham?

cece · 24/12/2006 11:04

Thnaks it is currently in the sink... will change wtaer... it is 4.3 kilos

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 24/12/2006 11:05

Just don't forget to change to water. You should be fine. I hope you don't have to stay up too late to do it. Oh and turn it when you change the water!

cece · 24/12/2006 11:06

Trouble is we are supposed to be eating it today! At about 5 pm.....

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 24/12/2006 11:07

Ah............... there may be trouble ahead!

cece · 24/12/2006 11:12

lets hope no one is hungry till about 9 pm....

perhaps I can fill them up with nibbles for a bit....

cece · 24/12/2006 11:12

IF YOU HAVE A FRIDGE OUTDOORS CHECK YOUR MEAT!

IT SEEMS TO BE FROZEN IN THIS HOUSEHOLD

munz · 24/12/2006 11:18

thanks, got mine out at 9am today, dad says to also shove your hand in and make sure there's no ice crystals inside the bird cos that means it's still frozen - also take out the innards ASAP cois that will slow the defrosting up
