Tesco just delivered my on-line shop but there was so much missing I've now go to join the madness in the supermarket... I am bracing myself for the trolley rage....

I'm off to the dreaded Asda in about half an hours time...it's like Night of the Living Dead in there at the best of times...

LetitShnowLetitShnowLetitShnow · 22/12/2006 12:25

Steel yourself, shove hard and if any old and fragile people get in your way, don't become overcome with kindness, just keep marching through them.

Tis the only way.

tassis · 22/12/2006 12:25

oh it's bad

reports here of fighting in tesco, carpark a nightmare

i just braved sainsburies for about 6 things but with 2 littlies...not fun!

did the bulk of it on wed night which was ok except that we've started eating christmas stuff already - wine, crisps, nuts and choc already opened...

themoon66 · 22/12/2006 12:29

Where do you all live? I went to tesco on my way home yesterday and it was ok, no queuing even.

PollyannaInExcelcis · 22/12/2006 12:31

I was very lucky - the only things missing from my Sainsbury's shop were things I forgot to order! (like beer )

JessaJingleBells · 22/12/2006 12:31

It isn't so much the business that is bad in this particular Asda , it's the, um, lobotomised state of most of the customers...(...you know the character Dawn French plays in Jam & Jerusalem...?)

poppiesinalinewithbellson · 22/12/2006 12:32

I am even tempted to get myself out of bed in the middle of the night to go

I went to tesco yesterday late morning and it was like a busy Saturday so not as bad as last year when I went about 9pm and it was horrible. I was really suprised by the number of people dragging small tired children with them and pissed of husbands in tow too. The worst thing yesterday was the aisles blocked by tesco staff restocking, huge crates and cardboard boxes evrywhere.

bonkerz · 22/12/2006 13:21

went tescos at 8.30 this morning with 3 kids in tow and wasnt too bad.....or so i thought....got back to the car and it was 11.50!! had been lost in tesco queues for hours!!!!

TheBlonde · 22/12/2006 13:51

Keep your purse close to you -- nearly had mine nicked off the back of the buggy in Sains this morning

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 22/12/2006 13:54

TheBlonde

DH should be home from work in the next couple of hours so I am going to head for Tescos and see what I can get and leave our two dds with him. Anything I can't get DH is going to go shopping on his own tomorrow first thing to get the rest.

santasaltire · 22/12/2006 14:18

Thankfully my Tesco shop had nothing missing, but odd substitutions,
EG I ordered ready to eat melon chunks for MIL, they sent a whole pineapple.
I ordered a box of icing sugar. they sent pink ready to roll stuff. i could cope perfectly well with the ready roll, just not the colour.
I ordered a bottle of bleach, they sent toilet duck.
I also had to phone and complain because i put notes on all the fresh stuff like apple nut and celery salad, quiches, pizzas, saying i wanted them for 25/26th. Most of the salad tubs have the 24th use by date

compo · 22/12/2006 14:27

What gets my goat is that they know hjow busy it is this time of year but they will insist on putting endless displays at the end of aisles just waiitng for people to bash into because there is no room to maneouvre around them. And they leave massive cardboard boxes around because they've restocked the shelves from them but not bothered to clear away the damn things. And how bored do the checkout staff look - the compulsory santa hats they have to wear look even more silly on top of a miserable face

ComeOyeFaithfulVeneer · 22/12/2006 14:35

I attempted to go to waitrose just to buy milk but there was a huge queue just waiting to get into the carpark, resulting in a traffic jam down the entire highstreet , think I will walk to the corner shop later on.

Skylertnightholynight · 22/12/2006 14:56

I have just done my Asda shop. It took me nearly an hour just to queue and pay

I looked at my list as I was queuing and saw that I had missed off a red cabbage, bread sauce and cranberries. It was too difficult to negotiate my very heavy trolly by this point so I paid and went back in when I had loaded my car. I grabbed a basket and went through the basket only self service till in no time. My tip now is to do it in basket shifts .
Most people were smiling but there was certainly some trolly rage. I got there at 9 and the car park was full.
Next time I will be starting early and freezing things!
Good Luck.

DimpledThighs · 22/12/2006 15:20

I am seriously tempted to set my alarm and go at about five in the morning tomorrow - anyone any idea what it will be like at that time?

What time do you think would be best?

(have ben laid up all morning with a migraine so the less stress the better!)

swedishmum · 22/12/2006 15:20

My Tesco was fine yesterday - about 5pm. I always try to do times when others may be home cooking/childcare etc. Got double veggie box yesterday and just have to pick up from M and S tomorrow evening and local butcher. Off now to buy some more decorations, assuming there's anything left! Dh is on his way to Bluewater after a 24h attempt to fly back from Warsaw. Serves him right for not buying my present earlier!

themoon66 · 22/12/2006 21:56

Did 90 quids worth at Morrisons this evening and it was ok... like a busy saturday morning really. The checkout ladies were lovely and happy too. No complaints at all. Only missing parsnips now, so may call in waitrose tomorrow when I pass and do it as a basket only jobbie.

FestivelyFoggyFloss · 22/12/2006 22:00

Did ours last night, Asda first alone and then sainsburies for the turkey cake and booze. then decided to make the trip this lunchtime to sainsburies nearby to get the veg as it was late last night and we had DS with us. That was my mistake but now hopefully, bar a trip to santa we can stay ensconsed untill boxing day!

InTheRoleOfAmanda · 22/12/2006 22:21

Ocado delivered almost everything on Wednesday.

Am getting the veg at farmers market on Saturday - never seen a queue there before so hoping it'll be quick.

InTheRoleOfAmanda · 22/12/2006 22:21

Time to change my name back I think!

TickledPink · 22/12/2006 23:00

santasaltire, you must have got my pineapple. I asked for a whole pineapple and got a punnet of plums instead!

fussymummy · 22/12/2006 23:24

I had Tesco deliver my groceries this morning.

£225 worth!!!!!!

I still have to go out sometime tomorrow to get a few bits that i forgot, and to re stock what my children have started eating, that i'd ordered for sunday!!

I have about 20 family here on christmas eve!!

I must be mad.

Am looking forward to it though. Just hope all the fog has gone so they can all get here safely.

Think i'll do the 30 minute walk to town to buy what i need, i don't want to waste my time queuing in the car park!!!

God, this just sounds vile. Sympathy to anyone who's had to brave the shops today.
