Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago,
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upsot.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
Two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

So if I read this right - a one horse open sleigh is a babe magnet

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2006 18:56

No, it's a fanny magnet.

indigNativity · 20/12/2006 19:00

I'm just more subtle

purplemonkeydasheranddancer · 20/12/2006 19:03

a BRIGHT fanny?

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 20/12/2006 19:32

Fanny Bright i stupendous

(sounds like a brand of femfresh, accorsding to DH who clearly has been spending too long in the feminine hygiene section of Boots )

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 21/12/2006 06:00

so upsot is get down and dirty? As in...

Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight

very rude xmas song - we were all slightly at playgroup. No wonder people stick to the first verse and forget the rest!

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 21/12/2006 19:07

So thats why we only do one verse

DarrellRivers · 21/12/2006 19:08

pmsl, had no idea of the other verses

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 21/12/2006 19:10

Is upsot the past tense of 'upset' i.e. the sleigh got turned over?

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 22/12/2006 09:08

here we go

Upsot appears in two 19th century poems which indicate that it means "turned over" (upset physically).

so that bit has been cleaned up
