Jumping back on board. How is everyone?

Sorry, I've been hiding on the competition/sponsored thread pages? (I tell dh it's like buying a raffle ticket but I only need my opinion instead of cash) and the fly lady thread to declutter in preparation for Christmas summer. Grin

BiddyPop · 09/05/2016 10:57

I have to start my next round of decluttering this week as well - the spare room looks like a bomb went off in it, and the study is a disaster! (It's my excuse for not getting back in there to finish my tax returns). So this week will be spent, at least some evening time, working on that. (Although hair appointment tonight, concert tomorrow, DAunt calling Thursday, school event Friday - I'd better be efficient on Wednesday!) Grin And I need to get my summer gear from the storage unit at the weekend (only open late on Thursdays - and I'm already busy).

I DID buy a couple of bits for Christmas stockings over the hen weekend - a book for DDad and a nice rose bath salts and soap set for 1 of up to 3 ladies who would love it. DSis bought a dress for DBro's wedding (we were at his DFiancee's hen!) while I saw the 1 I am thinking of in person (I'd seen it online, they didn't have it in my size to try). So I need to order that tonight. And as DSis needed wax for her boots, we were in an outdoor store - I picked up spare socks (50% off), spare tent pegs (Cubs bent at least 3 on the tent's 1st outing, and they're helping again in 6 weeks!), a small light for the tent, and gaitors (also 50% off, I've been contemplating for years but never could justify the price). DSis also ended up buying gaitors and a picnic rug. 3rd DSis almost bought gaitors as well (I'm never allowed an idea of my own when in their company - all on the bandwagon!). But stuck to buying the same book as me instead.

I am in 1 piece, need more sleep but will catch up. And I have more fun to look forward to, as going to the Bryan Adams gig with the Hen tomorrow night. Nothing to do with the Hen itself, just we both like him and neither of the menfolk wanted to go!

BiddyPop · 09/05/2016 12:18

Biddy were the Boohoo jumpers nice? I have my eye on one or four.

BiddyPop · 10/05/2016 08:37

Thanks Lolly,. I'm looking forward to it!!

Morning Constantly, well, I am partly not a fan of Christmas jumpers as they are nearly all totally acrylic (I tend towards real wool normally) - but they were nice as these things go. I got the "I can't keep calm, it's Christmas" one, which is nice and somewhat understated. And a Santa in the Chimney, full on picture - dark green background is a bit dull but I already have a couple of quite bright ones so slightly less full on is good. I am going to enjoy wearing them, certainly.

It seems to be a week of purchasing, as I ordered the dress for the wedding in the morning, and at lunch went out to get DD's meds and lunch for me - and picked up shoes for the wedding as well (skyscraper heels!) and got a matching handbag put aside (I can return the shoes if needed but not the bag, so will decide on both when the dress arrives later this week).

I did also manage to start putting things away in the spare room last night - we can see half the floor again and the bed is made. The plan is to work on that room this week.

Nothing done last night, as I sang my heart out at Bryan Adams!! Exhausted today, but with a grin a mile wide on my face, the man can sing!! (Unfortunately, we were seated too far away to ogle properly.....Wink)

Morning all,

I may not have got much done towards Christmas, but part of my slow learning of things like the HGP (Holiday Grand Plan) and Flylady's "Cruise for Christmas" plans was that things like deep cleaning the house are important. And slowly going around the rooms, hopefully somewhat methodically, helps. In my house, some rooms get done reasonably regularly, others less so. But plans like that remind me to try and tackle each room at least once a year. And do other regular maintenance type jobs while I am at it.

So last Thursday, I did clean out the "fluff filter" part of the tumber dryer - the lower one that generally gets forgotten (I don't think DH knows how to!). He did the washing machine filter over the weekend (as he'd got the metal point stiffener from his shirt stuck in it and I couldn't open it!). I also checked the drain in the back garden that sometimes needs attention. And emptied the sludge from the bottom of the rain barrel (that was at least 4 years gathering there Blush so a couple of inches of muddy stuff - there's building works locally so a lot of dust in the air that then gets washed off the roof).

Last night - I tackled the first aid box and medecines. Although I've just realized there's a big box in the spare room I missed. But I have gone through the plastic "suitcase" firstaid box that I keep in the kitchen and take on camp, and the small one for my backpack (just a cold pack, plasters and wipes), removed things no longer any use and tidied both so they are ready to use again. And the medecines drawer in my dressing table - where there were a few things out of date. So I must ask the chemist if they will take a bag of things off me.

Tonight, the groceries arrive for the weekend, I must bake for school, and my DAunt should be coming for cake and coffee as well. And DH gets home too, sometime around midnight.

I've only just put my two Woolovers jumpers in the attic (Space Saver Bag) , I kept hanging onto them in my wardrobe and wearing them.

I'm eyeballing some nice checked bedding from Ikea that fits in the Christmas/New Year/Hogmany theme, with a Christmas fleece on top, it'll be nice and cosy.

Like the idea of doing a room at a time, need to look on FlyLady I reckon.

Paperblank · 14/05/2016 08:57

Biddy those jobs are far from lovely but sounds like a job well done. I need to get my cleaning mojo back. 3 months of cuddling a baby has meant that a lot of things have fallen by the wayside!

ConstantlyCooking · 14/05/2016 14:53

Biddy I may have to adopt your cleaning regime. It also means that I am almost behind schedule for Christmas if I do a room a month. I love it when that happens : it means Christmas is getting closer Grin. I even look up post dates for surface mail to remote places just so I know Xmas Grin

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/05/2016 22:00

Well I spent yesterday mucking out a pigsty cleaning DD2's (17) room. I moved all the furniture and if it didn't move I dusted or hoovered it. Actually, I was very grateful that I didn't find anything moving in there Grin. In the grand scheme of things I would say that was a room deep cleaned for the year - but as it belongs to a teenager I'm not guaranteeing it won't need doing again in a month.

I had lunch this week with a lovely MNer who lives a few miles away and while I was killing time waiting for my bus I picked up a few bits from the Benefit counter in Debenhams for DD2. I did think they could be a treat for when she finishes her AS exams but after sorting through her makeup yesterday I've decided she has enough for now and I'll keep it for Christmas.

This week I plan to sort through my wardrobe and drawers and charity bag anything that doesn't fit or hasn't been worn for over a year. I still have suits that I wore to work before I had DS. That will also organise my wardrobe for future storage (DS (9) still believes). I don't think he is playing along for the sake of his dear old mum.

I am allowing for one room per month but will do the teenagers' rooms in the summer holidays when I can devote more time to the task and when they are not"DOING EXAMS".
Although one of teenagers is now in his 20s Confused

Considers cleaning DS (16) room.

I was in HomeSense with DH , I love the Hallowe'en and Christmas stock they have but it always has things a couple of months ahead. And if I see something I love, I know to buy it. It won't be there when I go back.

DH was Xmas Hmm when I said "Ooh I love this shop at Christmas, they do gorgeous crockery, gift boxes and decorations".
He doesn't get it

SideOrderofChip · 15/05/2016 11:16

Good morning everyone!

Paperblank · 15/05/2016 15:40

Am having a lovely time pottering about on Pintrest pinning new ideas for Christmas and finding ideas to make Martha's first Christmas magical (not that she'll understand but I'll know)

She's snoring her head off noisy little monkey and is quite content having a lazy Sunday snuggle.

Going to write up a budget later and start planning properly. When I was little I thought the park hampers were super glam Confused and might have a look at ordering the stuff (minus the crap nobody would like!) from a supermarket and seeing how much it would come to.
