What to do with panettone?

MIL has bought us a panettone, but I've never had one before. This may sound stupid but how are you meant to eat it? It's one with currants in and is fairly large!

I buy the chocolate one or tiramisu just eat it, I am not to keen on the fruit one as I don't like dried fruits.

Slice it, drizzle with Cointreau and icing sugar and toast lightly under the grill. This is how our Italian friends always do it.

I'm in Italy and turned my nose up about it to Italian husband, then I sat down with a cuppa and a slice which turned into a quarter of the pannetone! Blush

I still prefer Xmas cake but it's good with tea, espresso or any spirit like Vin Santo. I've had it with prosecco at Italian family gatherings before too. I'm definitely going to try toasting it now as I miss fruit bread so much here!!

I'm making this, it's so nice - www.nigella.com/recipes/view/italian-christmas-pudding-cake

But about a billion calories . . . .

Be careful when toasting panettone. It's so rich and buttery/oily it can easily catch fire under the grill, so keep a close watch.

Voice of experience and one microwave oven the poorer.

It is delicious served as a dessert with peaches in brandy or cherries in kirsch, with a dollop of good quality ice cream.

Prefer Pan D'Oro

Slice into thick 'fingers', soak in a mixture of double cream and milk, layer in a flat oven dish with butterscotch sauce and bake till lovely and crispy on top. Serve with good vanilla ice-cream

BIWI · 24/12/2015 23:10

... and more butterscotch sauce to our over it

BIWI · 24/12/2015 23:10

Pour!
