Door to Door Carol Singers

Does anyone ever get carol singers knocking on their door?

Just watched Very British Problems at Christmas where maintaining eye contact with carol singers who turn up was discussed.

I recall sit coms from my youth where carol singers were on the receiving end of a bucket of water or some other comedy moment featured them. As I was born and brought up in Scotland, I assumed that carol singers going door to door were an English thing.

I have lived in England for a few years now & have only seen carol singers in the foyer of my local Morrisons in the lead up to Christmas; am I just in the wrong place or do door-stepping carol singers still exist?

We don't have them here either, although I remember going carol singing as a child.

There are some areas where there is an organised thing collecting for charity and going around the community but it is usually published in advance and so people know when it will turn up at your door.
