To drink or not to drink...

On christmas day?
I dont drink. I think the last time was christmas eve last year, and then it wasnt much.

Im going to my parents on christmas afternoon and i will only have my oldest child at that point onwards. He is 11.

Im not talking about getting hammered, but because i dont drink often at all im not sure of my limits. So im wondering whether i should just pass on it or go for it

Just have a glass of wine or whatever if you want it. If you feel ropey, stop.

If you don't normally drink because you don't like it, you won't like it any more just because it's Christmas.

I don't drink (by choice)
I fancy the idea of something bubbly in a glass but in reality, I dislike the taste of wine or champagne.

I could have a spirit and mixer but it's not worth the hassell TBH.

DH doesn;t drive so I was always aware if anything happened then I'd be the one driving to A&E, so there's no way I'd be fit to drive if I had a couple (total alcohol lightweight )

Why don't you see how you feel on the day ? Why do you have to decide now. ?
It sounds vaguely like you're from a family with problems with alcohol in that you're overthinking it ?

Agree with essio, why do you need to decide now? Is it expected that you will have a drink by your family?

I can't drink now either but when I did it was never something that was pre planned. If I fancied it I had one, if not would have a soft drink instead.

Esiotrot - i think youve hit the nail on the head.
My mum was (possibly still is) an alcoholic. Its ever since my dad told me he had bought her perno for christmas.

Im thinking if i drink some, she will have less

sounds complicated on many levels. For a start if your mum is an alcoholic ('was' doesn't work, you're either an active alcoholic or a dry alcoholic) then why on earth is your dad buying her Pernod. Anyway, you can't help her any by having a v
Glass or two of her Pernod. Preserve your own sobriety and stay off the booze altogether is my opinion.

I know. It boils my piss and i dont understand. She had done so well, and said she didnt even miss it or think about it. Then my dad started offering her cans and i was baffled! It seems he is/has pushed her back to it...intentionally and it disgusts me. Thats a different story though.

I suppose that is why i have been questioning whether i should have a drink or not, as it seems i probably dont actually want to deep down, i just dont want her to.
