watering the tree - is there such a thing as too much water?

am a little paranoid about trees drying out as the last 5 years ours have been practically naked by xmas eve

but i think it's because we had underfloor heating at the last house - they never stood a chance

still, i'm watering this one every day. it's a cut tree, sitting in a little stand - just a little wider than the trunk. should i keep the holder topped up all the time, or just a little bit of water every few days?

I check mine every day or every other day and I fill to the top of the stand container it's in.

In my opinion there isn't such a thing as too much water as the tree will only absorb what it needs and believe me they drink an AWFUL lot. I always say when you think you've given it enough give it some more lol!

I was listerning to my local radio yesterday and they had a grower on and he said that a christmas tree drinks a pint of water a day.
