What are you buying your 14 year old boys for Xmas?

Stumped this year as to what to get my ds14, he spends most of his time in his room playing xbox/ps4/computer games etc. He has a gaming keyboard and mouse already and enough games etc. He has a mobile phone as well which he isn't that bothered about.He is not into music really or football, he plays table tennis sometimes and that's about it.

He still has money he has saved from previous birthdays and still can't think of what to spend it on. He is getting into clothes a bit more, he has new trainers that he got recently but I thought clothes were a bit boring to open but I guess if that's what he really wanted.

Gone are the days of going into Woolworths or ELC and picking up lego or toys, which I find quite sad.

Anyway, any ideas would be great.Thanks.

My son 15 is quite "young" in his tastes (he is autistic) but off the top of my head, he is having:

Gaming chair
Mini fridge for his room
A variety of Amiibos
Several packs of Amiibo cards and album for them
2 x WiiU games
2 x 3DS games
Nintendo hoody
Sonic poster framed
Nintendo poster framed
Family Guy box set

Apart from the box set, there's a distinctive Nintendo theme going on!

Thanks Boutonneux, some good ideas there. I have just been looking at a gaming beanbag?? Not sure if the chair may be better though, I am trying to get him further away from the screen lol, he has a habit of sitting really close and I am always on at him to move back. I think the chair may be better though as if he was playing a pc game I think he may be too low down to use a keyboard if he was sitting on a beanbag? Liking the mini fridge idea too, he is forever sneaking drinks and snacks upstairs. Thanks for your help

Mine isn't quite 14 yet but he's getting some new inline skates as his main present, a space/galaxy print hoodie, series 8 of the Big Bang Theory, and 2 Star Wars Funko figures. Grandparents are just giving him money this year as neither they or he could think of anything he wanted! I think he's decided he's going to use it for some new headphones now, and possibly some Nanoblocks (he's still a lego lover at heart and these are a bit more complex)

I asked my 14 year old DS and he said money for new clothes (and asked me to please not choose them for him ).

We have got him a few bits and pieces - including an alarm clock, football, various stocking fillers etc but the 'main' present will be as requested .............. cash (£100). He will also get money from grandparents & aunts and uncles - to be fair, he is very good at saving and will put most of it away in his bank account.

My 13 yr old has asked for a new Raspberry Pi, plus all the bits and pieces so he can turn his old Pi into a robot but maybe that is very niche ?

is he geeky?

If he's into programming etc. he'd love a Pi

These are his main presents, he will get money from relatives and has been talking about getting some black leather converse and often gets the odd iTunes voucher from various relatives as well.

Mine is getting a ps4 (upgrading from an Xbox 360 he's had for a few years now) plus trainers and bits and bobs. If not that it would have been a new laptop or mobile phone. He would love a mini fridge so that seems to be a good idea for that age and one I might think about for the future.

Mine is 15 and has just had a birthday so had the usual clothing, trainers, Xbox games then.

For Xmas I've got him some experience days...a helicopter flight and paint balling for 4 so he can take his mates. They were on sale on virgin experiences. He also has clothes, onesie, new watch and clothes. I was going to get him some insomnia gaming festival tickets for the nec but he decided he didn't want to go

Science books, novels, and a few more books (DS loves to read), a couple of dvd's (firefly and tinker taylor, soldier spy), a chemistry themed mug, playing cards with his name on, chinese ring puzzle, superdry wallet, penholder, art supplies, earphones, a new thermos mug, socks, lip balm, hair products, smellies,a big bang inspired T shirt, confectionery, a piggy bank that counts the money as it goes in, space rug dressing gown (looks like jedi coat - hopefully won't inspire re-enactment of his 6th xmas standing on the end of our bed at silly o'clock waving a light saber ), and a music system. That is all I have on the spreadsheet that DH checks, there may be a few small extra's I have forgotten about. I'm finished now, find boys really hard to buy for, only have one DS (but 5 DD's) - and he's is a bit of a geek

Thanks everyone for your great ideas. Like you whoatethelastbiscuit I find it really hard to buy for boys, especially as he gets older.I find his 16 year old sister much easier to buy for. He used to love getting lego and spend hours playing with it, he is not interested anymore which is a shame, and he was really into books especially the horrible histories ones. I find him now and again looking at these, so I may get a few books will have to do a bit of research into what books are in for his age group now, I have lost track. He is into facts and likes asking questions all the time so maybe he would like something like that.I also like the experience days mrsdaz mentioned, think he'd be into paint balling. Thanks again .

George have a look at Ready Player One, a book my teens loved. It's young adult rather than teen.

ds2 had quite young tastes as is autitstic, he is 14.5. he is getting a goody bag of bits for the radio controlled car he had for his birthday in the summer, fif 16 for xbox 360, the new avengers dvd, a david walliams book, some lynx. few others bits and bobs for his stocking, but all the car goodies (fast charger, long life battery, new pistons, paint, bearings etc) cost about £100

Mine is getting a ps4, an electric razor (bum fluff remover), Guinness world of records & gaming version, a few clothes, probably a couple of ps 4 games. I've tried over the years getting him things because I want him to enjoy them like books, music, sporty stuff and although he does to some extent really he just wants gaming stuff.

I have a geeky 14yr old too. He is quite taken with the Lego mindstorm kits, he uses the bits and somehow links them up to a raspberry pi and makes robots that can be programmed online.

He is trying to build a robotic hand at the moment so I don't think it is 'patronisingly childish' as Lego can be thought of.

Other than that, what about ski lessons at a snowdome or tickets to a concert.

Ds has asked for money so he can pool it together with money from other relatives to buy something more expensive. He did this for his birthday and had enough to buy a laptop!

So from us he is getting £100 in cash, a hoodie, some jeans, alarm clock, a puzzle type thing he can fiddle with, chocs, Maze Runner books box set and some aftershave.

If they have everything.

I have a 13 year old and 15 year old still at home and three older sons at work/uni. Am we're on minimum wage so they will be lucky to get about £50 each from us. But my oldest son is in a very well paid job, single, with no kids of his own and no significant other plus is close to his brothers, so he will probably give them £70 or £80 each. Putting the two together, they will have something to spend. To give them stuff to open, we just get stuff like Lynx deodorant that they love (Normally it's Poundland specials), fancy soap, face cleaning stuff, pants etc - ie: stuff I'd have to buy anyway but they like to get because it's the kind of stuff their big brothers get.

There are loads of PS4 games etc they'd like, but I can't afford that as well.

The past couple of years with £s being short, I have tried to emphasise that it's about us being together, playing board games, eating nice food, etc. For the older boys, I have made their presents. Luckily I'm a competent seamstress/knitter!

Have bought mine a flicker scooter and some Heelys, plus playstation stuff.
Last year he liked t shirts from favourite tv shows and personalised football top.

A website domain in their name and an early driving lesson went down well with various foster kids around that age.

For a stocking filler, nano blocks, miracle berry tablets (the one's that change your perception of taste) or a penknife and fire striker for outdoorsy types.

DS14 is getting an x box 360
