Brilliant! I thought, and sent MIL the slippers she wanted, to the USA. Via my sister in law. But have just realised I have no idea if they will escape the dreaded customs charge. They are a gift, I ticked "this is a gift" at checkout and added a message to be included which said "For MIL for Christmas".
But usually you have to write "unsolicited gift" on the outside of the parcel and include the name of the recipient and a description and value of the gift. I've no idea how M&S package parcels and if we're going to get stung with a charge we can't currently afford :(
