Interesting ways to give money to children at Christmas

I hate giving cash. As a child Ioved presents and the fun of wondering what they are.

My family have asked for money for the children as they get so much already.

I want to give them 15 each but I hate the idea of handing over a card with money in it.

Are there any creative ways I can do this?

Multiple layers of wrapping with padding to create bulky shape. Or put money inside a box, with something to add a bit of weight.

Put them in baubles to put on tree, do a treasure hunt if you are physically there. Money maze, about £3 on ebay.

Inside one of those fillable baubles and hang it on the tree? Then set them a challenge to find it (depending on how old they are they may find this fun or ridiculous)!

This is presuming you'll be there when they open it.

Mine love the fillable baubles and they are very handy for giving cash. You can get some really nice ones in places like Homesense.

I usually send my DNs - abroad - Euros, hidden in something to make them less obvious in the post. We've had:

Socks
Wallets
Books
DVD boxes
Gloves

All things that you can buy cheaply but are easy to post.

One of my Aunts used to roll notes up and squeeze them through the net of chocolate coins.

My nan used to put very small gifts in crackers , you could do the same with money. Don't know how she did it though , I'm sure if you had a mess around you'd work it out.

you can buy kits to make your own crackers from places like wilkinsons and various other similar shops so you could do something like that with a few personalised bits and bobs in each cracker maybe

I heard of someone setting this challenge for finding money: the children (aged about 10 and 12) were asked if they thought they knew all the hidey holes in the room: they beamed and said they did. They were blindfolded, and told that a £20 note for each of them was hidden in the room. They were told told to ask questions about where it was, such as "is it behind me?" "is it under the carpet?". They were very confused when they kept being told it was right in front of them.

After much hilarity, they finally worked out that it was hidden inside their blindfolds!

Dangle it from a fishing rod and make the buggers jump for it. Mwhahahaha. (Maybe not what you had in mind)

This is what we do for my DD :) fill the balloons with confetti too. It's fun and easy as can use whatever size box you want but just fill it with slightly blown up balloons and share the money out in each balloon.

tbh op, i think good old cash in a card works very well.

as a child I loved to get cash in a card I felt rich and grown up, I would give 3 x 5 or all coins.

dd loves to get cash in a card also

How about book tokens?

I probably just have really ungrateful children (14 and 11 at the time) but maybe don't do what I did last year and buy grabber and penny slot machine toys from Amazon and put their money in them to win. I spent ages queuing at the bank to get bags of coins and twisting the notes around sweets but after about 10 minutes they thought it was too much of a faff and tipped them upside down to get the cash out!

This year it will be a lump of coal each!

My DD put some money in a money maze box for DD last year. He loved it.

We used to be given a little token gift with the money taped to it.

I love the Jar of Nothing (Yes DS, I'm looking at you)

DS likes money. (He is a saver so, it works for him)

"D'you want a Game (XBox)" - no I can buy it online
"D'you want Microsoft Points" - I can get them online

If I didn't give him money, he'd have no 'physical' presents to open.
We buy him Young Driver Lessons and print off the reciept.
£50 note in a little gift box. I might try the Russian Doll method and do a Box-in-a-Box-in-a-Box.

We have used balloons before with rolled up notes inside. My DS didn't realise they were special until he opened a little gift box with a nice pin in it - then he realised what he had to do.

I made cellophane moneybags with pound coins and chocolate coins last year

We got a little key ring thing called a cash stash, and folded up a tenner to fit. Have also done an origami star which went down well.
